So, it turns out I have disc brakes

Swapping wheels today, first time I recall having the fronts off. Was pleasantly surprised to find I had front disc brakes. Coolio. Now, can anyone help me figure out what they are off of, since I'm guessing they didn't come from the factory in 1970.

The caliper seems to be stamped "Delco Moraine" on the left and have the numbers "6473 499" on the right.

That also explains why the front tires stick out further than the rears.

In 70 it was a open knuckle axle (still drums though stock) meaning it was easy to convert to discs using that axle unlike the 69 and older axles...Meaning it could be the original axle but 71 and newer rotors, etc.I cant help you determine the year...

All 4wds were made with the front track wider than the rear. It`s possible that you have a late`70 that got the new brakes.Whatever the reason you have discs, those brakes look like they`ve been on there all along.

That groove in the front disc is a factory thing. Replacements don't have this groove. If that front axel wasn't factory on your truck, it was factory on somebody's 71 or 72 front 1/2 ton truck.

Thanks for the heads up on the groove, I have a set off a 2wd '71 that have that groove, I was thinking it was from running worn pads. I may just have my old ones turned instead of replacing..

Guess I'll find out when it's time to replace the pads.
