How big is my bed?

Stupid question, but my truck isn't available right now and I need to know. The internet isn't really that helpfull either. Someone is trying to sell me a 8' tonneau cover for $30, and I'm wondering if it will fit.

I have a '72 Chevy C-10 Longbox.

Re: How big is my bed?

Bought the cover today. It's 8 feet long, 5 feet and some change wide. Does that sound right for a 72? The rails that hold the thing in place mount underneath the sides of the bed, and come around the lip. So you figure it needs to be 5 1/2" or so from one lip of the bed to the other.

Re: How big is my bed?

My truck is coming back tommorow, er today (Friday). I wanna get it all mounted and ready to go. For $50, it was an AWESOME buy. He bought it brand new 2 years ago. He said "Well, it's not in good condition, so that's why I'm selling it cheap."

I figured it had holes in it, scuffs, etc. But when I got to his house, he rolled it out and it looked perfect other than the fact that it was dirty. Even if it did have a hold or two, I could fix it for less than what a brand new one costs.

I will post some pics of the cover itself before I mount it. I get off work in 4 hours, so expect them in about 5.

Re: How big is my bed?

Well, I tried to install it. I installed it backwards, which wasn't really a problem, however it's like a half an inch too small. Width wise that is....

Re: How big is my bed?

is it hard or soft ??

if it is a soft cover then try to put it on on a hot day in the sun so it will strech

Re: How big is my bed?

It's vinyl, and I dunno how much I can stretch it. It's only held on by velcro. Theres probly around a half inch on each side that's off. When my dad gets home this afternoon I will see what I can do.

Re: How big is my bed?

Chances are that the cover, if short on the sides, was designed to fit an 88 or newer chevy. Our boxes and the older ford boxes are wider than the new ones.
Don't think you will be able to make it fit no matter how hard you stretch, if that's the case!
