Cab question
I hope this doesn't seem like a dumb question, but I'm only asking because I don't know.
I see on the parts board alot, people talking about cabs and a/c cabs. Is there a difference in the cabs if they are factory equipped with a/c? I'm assuming they mean an air conditioned cab. Is there some difference in the firewall? Sorry...but I didn't realize there was a difference in them. Thanks in advance for clarifying this. |

only difference i know is the ac deflector balls that are in the dash.

The firewall on the AC cabs are different and the openings on the dash for the vents.

Someone stated that the later non a/c cabs already have the hole in the firewall of the cab for the a/c I think they were saying from 69 or 70 through 72.
The hole in the firewall and the vent holes in the dash are the main differences besides all of the vents and misc. hardware.

I have a 71 non ac cab. I got the dash out of a 50th truck and I also cut the section out of the firewall to weld back in mine. I can take a couple pics tonight if that would help.....let me know....

No problem 1971stepside. I was just wondering. I have a 71 gmc with a/c, but it's pretty rusty, so I was think of swapping a bunch of parts over to a 67 I'm looking at, but the 67 isn't a/c. The 71 is starting to get cancer around the rain gutter on the cab. I can just imagine that it doesn't have that many years left, even with me trying to patch & save it.
I had really never looked that close at the firewalls of a/c & non a/c, so I didn't know. Once again, you guys answered my question, I appreciate the response. |

Living in Michigan and dealing with rust ingrains in us that most anything can be repaired. I would look at it with the thought of repairing the AC cab.

Good idea Jim, I hate having to continue repairs that keep popping up, but so is the life with an old vehicle. I figure from the response on here, easier to repair the rust than try & move all that a/c stuff onto a non a/c cab. Thanks for the insight.
