Headlight conversion

Howdy ya'll, just have a quick question.

I just bought a set of (4) 5 3/4" headlights on fleabay and they don't fit my trim ring, so I'm looking for an alternative. I desire a new sytle bulb (H4 or high/low equivalent) in a 5 3/4" housing. Now, I know I shouldn't have gotten them off eBay, as they look cheap and don't fit the trim ring. I expect to clearance behind the bulb for any kit, but these ones are 1/8"-1/4" too small for my rings! Anyways, I know GMCPauls, LMC, Musclerodz, and some other site vendors also offer the converion kits and was wondering what experiences ya'll have had with them. Even the vendors can chime in. Thank you for the information, I no longer care about the prices.

Not sure what our site vendors offer... I bet you'll find out soon enough, though!

What I can tell you is that major brand name headlamps (Bosch, Cibie, Hella...) will fit perfectly and are top quality. Not the cheapest, but worth the cost imho.

I have been looking at Bosch, and I found a 5 3/4" setup, but now I can't refind it! Anyways, it's easy to find 7" (chevys), but 5 3/4" is a real pain for us GMC guys, I guess being better means these kind of headaches.

I've been using E-Codes in several vehicles since the early 1970s...

some of these are flat front lenses and some are convex. which of these looks best on our trucks?

In the eye of the beholder...

I've had both (in different vehicles) and generally prefer convex lenses. For one thing, they're less noticeable -- and true E-codes are not street legal everywhere, though you're unlikely to be busted these days for headlamps.

Personal opinion - if you are going to spend the money - get some Hella's. They are worth it. And the best color of light IMO opinion is the Optilux (white) bulbs that they offer. They are cheap Chinese made bulb, not German, but they are very clean and give off good light. If you want the brightest, just plain light, for cheap, get you a set of CLEAR 100w Luks bulbs.

I used to own a 1994 Camaro - they had the crappiest factory headlights known to man. I spent hundreds on different setups and bulbs, so just go with me here.

That is what these are. They are "Sealed beam conversions". They look exactly the same, but they have a hole in the back basically. You can see it in the picture on rallylights.com

Hellas are excellent, as are Cibies -- which are a bit spendier than Hellas, but have a slightly different beam pattern, at least in the 7" size. Hellas are a bit narrower with more vertical light (high beam only; both have sharp horizontal cutoff on low beam, and flare up to the right for road signs) -- Cibies don't throw as much light upward, but have a bit wider beam which I prefer.
