Cab Dipping

Anyone know were to get a cab dipped in Florida. How much it costs. Any info or suggestion would be great.

I would think twice befor dipping a cab. There are a lot of double wall areas on a cab and the inside unseen parts will be bare metal and I would think the humidity in Florida would rust it over night. JMO

Plus, I've seen cabs fall apart from dipping it.

I just returned from a shop that does them for $400 and and had one on the floor just dipped. Their is alot double wall areas that you can not get to for paint.

Now unless you know a paint dipping shop I would be a bit weary of doing it.

What ever happened to Ed from Mothertruckers. He was in Florida and always dipped his cabs. His philosiphy was that there is no place you can't get to with a wand sprayer and some epoxy primer. http://www.mothertruckers.net/

I wa asking because I just heard that they redipped the cab in a protective coating.

Some places but few and far between will EDP dip the cabs. I personally know of none except the factories. Dipping is not a bad thing, these cabs came with no protection between metal anyways much like all of the old cars. You can use a wand system that most paint suppliers provide to recoat everything. It is just time consuming and would be beter off done on a rotisserie.

all gm products prior to mid to late 70 were bare inside captive panels thats why they rust out From the inside out more times than not. Sometime in the 70's they got a phosphate dip at the factory. Anyone that has worked in the autobody trades very long and especially professional restorers will concur with this, there is however a considerable amount of exterior rot from chemicals (salts) placed on icy roads.

Its getting harder and harder to find acid dipping companies for FED regulations. We have paid anywhere from $60.00 to $100.00 per piece. Like a fender, door, stake body gate etc. $300.00 for a 12' flatbed. Cabs ran $400 to $500.00 depending on how many other parts you gave them. Very little problems with rust in the confined areas. As said need to clean as good as possible. They neutralize the acid but occasionally it reappears from some of the seams. We used to get stuff dipped at International Harvestor in Springfield, Ohio during shut down. One time we had a mbg dipped. Thats when we learned you can't dip steel with aluminum skins. The guy dipping it didn't pay attention.
I know Atlanta, Ga still has some dipping places
