That might be a little on the high side, around here a truck in the shape you describe would probably go for around 2000 to 2500.
I'm sure if you posted some pics somebody could give you a better idea of a fair price.

that's what junk trucks go for around here. I looked at another junker today that was priced at 3500... that seems to be a popular number here.

What you give has a lot to do with the area you are in. As mentioned by Big D that would be a little much in the South because rust free long bed trucks are common. In the rust belt finding a clean truck to start with saves lots of time and money.
Post pics and we can give better advice.

Much awaiting the pics, and I say If it is what you want and the metal is pretty straight then go for it

I'll be interested in seeing the pics. Sound like a nice truck and we all know longbeds are the best
(Okay, I'm a little biased since mine was a longbed)

Depends on the interior and other little details, but I'd say that sounds about right - especially considering where you're located. Probably pretty tough to find a minimal rust truck up there!
Mine was a C20 longbed, 700R4 trans, nice interior, in general "farm use" condition which means kinda dirty, but straight and in good shape with zero rust. I paid $3900. The best part? The 700R4!
