I hate deer!!
Last night I was coming back from a local parade which is about 35 minutes from my home and was cruising in a line of traffic about 55 mph and out of knowhere I saw a deer and slammed on my brakes but it was to late "BOOM". I figure there is going to be a new outer grill, inner grill, new front quarter panel and a new front bumper not sure until I get it torn apart.
Here is the pics, this makes me so mad I was headed to the Syracuse Nationals this weekend with it with a bunch of my buddies, I guess now I will be a passanger |

Man that sucks, just be happy it wasn't a Moose. They are long legged and if you hit one they will end up in your lap thru the windshield. Glad no one was injured.

Re: I hate deer!!
I'm originally from southwest NY. We lived way out in the sticks. I was lucky and only ever smacked one deer, but I have LOTS of family members who have had multiple hits. I've hit my brakes for them more times than I care to remember, literally almost every night during mating season, but when I moved down here... it was like.... where the hell did all of the deer go?
Hopefully insurance will cover it? Until then, pull the fender, smack it a few times, put it back on, the hood should go back down, duck tape a head light in and go to nationals

Re: I hate deer!!
Thanks guys, I must say I am pretty lucky, I took off the fender today and got it looking OK, not like it was but good for now. I also took off the grille and am looking for a replacement as we speak. Things could have been a lot worse, I could have been on my motorcycle and that could have been a real mess.
Make mee feel better guys lets see the pictures of your accidents. |

Re: I hate deer!!
My brother hid a deer in his 68 chevelle, put a few crinkles in the fender, and needs to adjust it becuase his passenger door pops when you open it, but for hitting a dear at 80 solely on the right side of the car, im amazed it didnt do anything more than reangle a headlight bucket.

Re: I hate deer!!
I had a friend completely lose the right front fender and half of the door skin on a 68 nova. I almost couldn't believe an animal could do that much damage. It could have been worse, glad to see your alright and the truck will survive.

Re: I hate deer!!
I don`t hate deer.I hate hitting deer.I imagine they don`t like getting hit by vehicles any more than we like crunching our vehicles. There`s a dead or mamed deer somewhere and you`re whinin` about not making a run.Sorry,it sucks, but I just gotta put things in perspective.

It's all fixed now, but I needed a new bumper and license plate bracket and had to straighten the bumper brackets. When I took the bumper off, it was much worse than it looks in the pic, but I was still really lucky. It also bent my exhaust pipes, they weren't fun to straighten I also hit a deer with the 67 way back in 97. I saw it and was almost stopped when I hit it. No visible damage to the truck at all.

Re: I hate deer!!
I drove my son out too rochester ny. two weeks ago. On the thruway I must have seen eight deer on the trip just grazing on the side of the thruway and traffic was doing between 70 and 80. They were not more than 5to10 feet off the shoulder. All I kept saying on the 720 mile round trip is I hope they dont dart out in front of me.

Re: I hate deer!!
I just painted the truck my self last year, it is just a one step paint, plan on doing a base clear probably in a year or two so I pounded out that dents for now and it looks ok, just need to get the inner and outer grill now.

Re: I hate deer!!
I'm in southern Illinois and deer/car strikes happen every day it seems like. Luckily i've only hit a couple of them and no real damage was done. Of course when I get my truck back together i'll probably total it out on a deer. Thats my luck. Glad that you're ok and like someone else said above, I hope it tastes good.

Same thing happened to my '40 Olds coupe going to a Saturday night cruise-in. Haven't found a grille for my Olds yet, been four years lookin'.
