can this be done?
my question to you knowledgeable guys is,
i need to wire a internal regulated alternator up, but don't want to cut my wires at the connection into the external regulator! i know you have to connect the outside wire together, (blue to Brown) and cap the white and orange wires. can you do it this way instead??? connect a jumper from the 2 outside wires? and just leave the 2 indside ones, or run a jumper off them and cap? http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...N10/tr14aa.gif then finished it off as did the guy on www.chevelles.com! http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...AN10/tr14b.gif thanks guys, i just don't want to biiitch up my wiring! any thought into this?

I just put a internal alt. on my truck
You run the charge wire from the #2 spade on the alt, to the positive side of the battery Then run a wire from the #1 Spade on the alt, to your generator light / gauge Hope this helps |

Go to MAD electrics write up on this stuff. You need to route the #2 wire to ssomewhere like a junction splice for the alternator to work correctly. If you simply route to the hot lug on the alternator, as the diagram shows, your alternator will think everything is fine because it will scence 14 volts at that point, and somewhere down stream where you need goodvolts like at the lights or ignition, it will be 2-3 volts less. madelectrical has a good article on 3 wire vs 1 wire. There is only one advantage to the 1 wire, ease of instalation. They are more expensive, about twice, and you will have a whole lot better luck finding a 3 wire GM in Timbuck2 when your one wire goes out. The 3 wire are in any parts house anywhere. Realy pretty simple to instal and a whole lot better for your electrical purposes in your truck.
