Starting Problem
Some of you may remember me: I've been trying to figure out a starting problem for a while now & have gone step-by-step to eliminate the possible problem.
My brand new battery dies after a few weeks of use. Sometimes it won't start after long trips unless I wait for sometimes up to 30 minutes before it will start again. The truck has: - A new battery - A new alternator - A new starter & solenoid (I tested them both & they work just fine) - A new distributor So, the truck wouldn't start this time, even though the dash lights would light when I turned the key. Eventually the lights went out entirely, so I took my battery in to get it charged and the starter to get it tested. Starts up like a dream now. It will go, as I said, for as long as a month before I have to go recharge it again, which sucks. Any ideas? A mechanically inclined friend of mine thinks perhaps the ignition switch is staying on after I take the key out, draining the battery slowly over time. Does anyone have a clue? This truck is so strong & I would love to get more use out of it. I just need to figure this starting thing out! Thanks. |

Re: Starting Problem
I vote for either a key-off drain or a charging problem. Since your alternator is new it may not be the issue.
Here is some info about key-off drains: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ad.php?t=33198

Re: Starting Problem
Is this a fairly intense game of elimination I'm about to play? Hours? A full day?
Sounds like a pantload of fun to me. Thanks for your quick response. |

Re: Starting Problem
I've never run into this issue on a vehicle I've owned, so I can't say for sure. Just trial and error, I suppose. :drink2mny: Here's to hoping you find it sooner than later
