Re: 73-79 front end or 81-87

I know what ya mean. I loved my old 76 but it had the 79 or 80 grille, and trim around it all. I liked it, and like the ones without the extra trim around the parklights and such.

I think I like thoose better then the 81-87's. They are nice too but I think the 79 and older I like a tad better.

SOrry guys but the square light 80's, YUCK IMO.

The Grille on my '81 has been growing on me.. never really been a fan of the skinny '70's grilles, or the multiple headlight setups.

I like both really. Maybe just a bit partial to the 73-80 front end. Either way, put me in a nice 73-87 and I'm happy.

If I have to drive a square truck, I want the square headlights.

Re: 73-79 front end or 81-87

I SURE know what you are going thru.
I started out with a 79 front clip. Decided I liked the 85 better so got that one.
Then I saw one with a 90 Suburban front clip and decided thats what I am going with. So I picked up a suburban.
Now I got front end parts all over and nothing put on.

A old truck isn't an old truck unless it has round headlights.

Besides, there is no need for more than two headlights on anything...gets too busy.

Re: 73-79 front end or 81-87

i gotta go with the 79 grill...not just because mines a 79 but i parked mine next to my friends 73 and i just like when the bezel goes around all of the lights. i do like the more rectangular lights from the late 80s early 90s, and am ok iwth the 4 square lights...but the ones with 2 square ones dont look that good in my opinion. id go with 73-79.

Re: 73-79 front end or 81-87

What look are you going for? Custom? Stock? Old school? Modern custom?

73-78 is my favorite because it has the round headlights, a clean front end, and the "old school" look that the later models start to lose.

The 79 is ok, but I personally don't like the turn signal surrounds. They don't look so nice or flow as well with the bodywork, in my opinion.

I've seen 3 1980's around and they all looked awkward.

The 81-87 is the square front and it looks great, especially if you're doing a custom. It's interesting, though, because the front end is unmistakably 80's.

I own an '83, but I voted for the 73-79. I love the round headlight look. Especially on the 73-75 with the sunken in grille...

Where did you get those headlights ? I've been considering going to H4's and I'm looking for a good brand to go with. Is the light output improved ? Is the quality good ?
