Re: Progress on 87 K30 project

Wow, this was a fun thread to read. My truck is an 87 1 ton with the 454/th400, and I put a 4" skyjacker lift in with 33" tires on 16.5" wheels. It's really fun watching you make such a similar truck look (and run) so good!

Cut your front wheels, example like your making a tight turn. Get out and look at how close your 33" tires are now to the fender.
With 35" tires, spring compression and your wheels turned in any direction except straight im thinking your going to wreck your fenders.

Sometimes I still get a fender rub with my 33s at full lock.

Re: Progress on 87 K30 project

I've had the 35" BFG from one my 71 K20s on the K30 and no issues or rubbing. I don't think I'd want to do serious off roading with any of them but I don't do that anyway. I do have the extra Skyjacker spring for the front for the big block weight which helps as well. The K30 is higher than both my 71 and 72 K20s for some reason.

Do you have a part number for that extra spring? My front end sits a little low.

Your wheels dont have to be cut full lock for your wheels to hit the fender.
My truck has the HD Superlift 4" set up with the extra leaf in front.
When my wheels are straight it looks like I have lots of room in the wheel wells to clear bigger tires but I know I dont because I do drive off road.

You want your front end to be a little lower than the back. See those trucks have different wheel well opening in the front than they do in the back. If your truck sets absolute level then its going to look like its driving up hill all the time.
Example when I put the 4" suspension kit under my truck the distance from the top of my front tire to the top of the wheel well opening was something like 12" but the same distance on top of my rear tires was about 10.5", but my truck was perfectly level.
I actually had to add 1.5" lift blocks to my rear suspension to give my truck the right stance. Now it sits with the hind end up a litttle bit but the truck looks level.
