Question our fan shrouds same as van?

Someone posted ealier that fan shrouds on our trucks are same as some certain year of chevy van? Is that true and if so what year? Bonus question-can you put 72 door panels on earlier doors and vice versa?

i highly doubt it, van radiators are narrower to start with, and 72 door panels come out firther away from door, you owuld ahve to swap out inside latch release assmbly and glass regulators assmblies for ther longer 72 ones, and then figure out how to hook bottom of panels to the earlier doors, alot changed...

I will reply about the door panels. I have had the 72 panels on a 67 and a 71. The handles fit very tight but it is possible. the 72 hardware was longer to accomodate the plastic panels though. I used a shroud off of a 71 chevy van with a 307 in my 67 it fit good. I do not know about other years though. As a matter of fact I am reusing the shroud when I get to that point of my buildup. Hope this helps or at least sheds some light for ya.

Thumbs up

I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THE SHROUDS, BUT YEP-- YOU SURE CAN CHANGE THE DOOR PANELS. I'VE DONE IT ON QUITE A FEW DOORS. I PERSONALLY DON'T CARE FOR THE 72 PANELS, & LIKE THE 67-71 ONES BETTER. ATTACHING THEM IS NO BIG PROBLEM. I JUST DRILL HOLES, & PUT 1/4 20 NUT-SERTS IN THEM. THE DOOR HANDLE & WINDOW CRANK SHAFTS ARE A LITTLE LONGER & CAN EITHER BE REPLACED OR YOU CAN USE THE THICKER,PADDED CST STYLE ESTUCHENS. NO PROBLEM.

I also have heard that they are the same. I was at my mechanics when he was working on an 80's something Chevy van. I didn't take a tape measure to it, but everything looked the same to me. I had my truck there and did a visual of them and didn't see anything obvious. Give it a try.

This is a 70's something van shroud with 85 Chevy truck rad. V8 in l6 position. Had to trim about 1/8 inch from the top lip and slightly elongate the top mounting holes. Would of bee prefect with V8 in V8 position Fits very nice and is centered on the fan. This set up would allow the use of the newer style composite tank with aluminum heat exchanger rads modine make for the late 80 trucks. You need to use the 85 lower formed hose that fits better than the original.
