Re: Bad Motor, what are my options

The last rblt long block I bought was 5 yrs ago and 80,000 miles. It cost half of what a crate motor would have cost me. I have never heard of the HV oil pumps/water pumps being a bad idea. If they are..I know now. If I had the cash to buy a 300 hp crate motor, I'd jump on it as well. My last long block cost me $545.00, then again I get a discount because I buy through the compamy I work for. With any motor I think break in will determine the longeviety of the engine.

And lastly, what are the options for someone who just doesn't have the time/money and wants to get out from underneath this? I hate this option, b/c my family has a love affair with this truck, and I've already spent some time/money (including a trans rebuild) on it.
As a couple others suggested go get a junkyard motor or find one a local guy is selling. 300 bucks for a decent running non smoke blowing 350 all day long around this area. go rent an engine hoist and do it yourself. I know you said you didnt know how but it is easy. just ask a lot of questions here. I have bought entire wrecked cars just to get a good motor/tranny, then call the junkyard to come get the leftovers. they might even pay you for it depending on the price of scrap. that opinion is if you want to keep it.
If you really want to get out from under it, cut your losses and just sell it as is, dollar for dollar the money/labor and effort you put in it doesnt add back up on resale
