Front Roll Pan Install Help!! - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hey Everyone,

I bought a front roll pan for the 67. Looks to be a well made piece and I bought it from Mar-K. Anyway when I received the roll pan, I laid it on top of the grill (the grill was upside down as it's not currently on the truck) to test fit it and to determine the best way to install this piece. While doing that, I noticed that the curve along the length of the roll pan is off compared to the grill piece it attaches to. So, I lined up one end of it flush to the grill and it seems to be off by well over an inch on the other side. My first thought is that the grill was bent, but that isn't the case as it lines up perfectly with the fenders and there is no sign at all of it ever being damaged. The roll pan doesn't appear to be damaged in any way during shipping either.

Is the roll pan made wrong or is there a trick to installing these?

you need to trim a piece off the front of each framerail for starters on most of the pans i've seen

Try centering everything.There is probably some excess on each end of the roll pan so you can trim it to fit when you mold it in.

Here is some photos of what I'm talking about. It looks simple enough to "pull" the rollpan over but it's actually a very well built piece of metal and if I try to change the curvature of it, nothing good is going to come of it. I have Mar-k checking it as well. To be honest, I'm not sure what I'm going to do if they say nothing is wrong, as I have already cut the horns a while ago knowing I'm going with a roll pan. My grill is in really good shape (considering it's 40 years old) and has no signs at all of any type of major damage.

My thoughts are it's made wrong and it shouldn't be this far out of whack. Anyone installed one of these? Advise?

We replied directly to this customer, but wanted to pass the information along to anyone who might be interested in our front pan.
Here is part of the email we sent:
"Do you happen to have the baffle panel (or the splash panel) that goes
between the grille and the radiator core support? This piece will
establish the exact curve of the grille when they are bolted together.
If the grille is bent, then the baffle panel will not fit match the
shape of the grille.
We make our front pan to exactly match that baffle panel. The
recommended installation is that you would slide the front pan flange
between the grille and the baffle panel. When you push it all the way
in, the curve of the pan should match the curve of the baffle panel and
grille. Then you bolt the baffle panel to the grille with the flange
in between."

We also faxed him a copy of the assembly manual that shows the grille and baffle together.

Not to revive a dead thread, but I'm wondering how this ever turned out. Considering a front rollpan for my '72 and want to avoid problems.

Turned out fine. The grill was a little out of whack, but it looks great now. Click on my build thread, there is a photo of it mounted.
