ps hose part number
can't seem to search for the right thing - my closest parts store is Advanced (I don't know at what..) They have the same high pressure hose listed for 8 years of engines (6 and 8's, 250, 350, 402, etc) - their part number is 71065. I saw the same part number on several different websites too!
My pump came off a 70, 6 cyl. (saw pictures before purchase). The parts people were "too busy" to look at a few others to see if we could find one with the correct fitting to go into the back of the pump. (I have a couple of the pumps so I know I don't have an oddball either) The return side of my steering box has only a hole, no fitting - the return hoses are just a peice of hose of course (have that already) - what fitting is supposed to go in the box? Could someone point me in the right direction? I've 'bout beat this horse into dog food and want to get on the rod asap. Much appreciated!

I believe that is the part no. for the pressure hose I just put on a couple of months ago. Will have to check it to make sure.

Just checked and, yes, that is the correct pressure hose for my setup.

Would this make a difference if it was off a 70 4x4 Blazer (it was)? - looking at the lines where they are strapped to the frame rail, you can see the lines do not look anything like the part number 71065... I am ASSUMING the steering boxes are the same for most years too? Anyone? Like I said, I've done the search thing here and can't find anything in previous posts (not even the FAQs on ps upgrade).

Do you have a pic of the pressure hose attaching to your pump? Also, the pressure hose I took off of mine was no where near what the new one was either. The old hose was routed back under the frame and up to the pump...

I don't have a pic - the new, incorrect hose, fit a brass fitting on my steering box but it was tight against the inner fender and routed the wrong way - I'd of had to twist the heck out of it to go towards the front and then at the pump. Same with the other end (if it would have fit the pump).

Mine has a brass male adapter for the pump, but i don't recall the gearbox side being brass. My pump looks different than yours, though.

HOLY CRAP A MOLEY!!!! I wonder if the PO put the brass fitting (that came with the new hose (and the same hose I bought)) in the gear box instead of the back of the PUMP!!!
If I take it out of the gearbox, put it in the back of the pump, then use the MALE end to go into the gearbox, the female end of the hose will fit on the adapter now put in the pump!!!!! THAT'S GOT TO BE IT!!!! sb69, you have helped me see the light - when I get home, I'll make sure it's not the train coming! THANK YOU! Now hang on a sec..... that'd mean the gearbox hole and the pump hole where the same size.... UNLESS he loaded it up with teflon tape or something......... I'll see what it is tonight.....

My new pressure hose had the adaptor for the pump side as well.
I could not find one that didn't need the adaptor. This is a V8 with a short pump. Same part number you mention. Pics are kind of dark but I hope this helps. |

sb69!!!! you nailed it! All the time I cleaned, scraped, primed and painted that thing, the brass fitting never came out - until I touched it with a wrench! I put the brass fitting in the pump, female end on that, male fit in the box perfectly. I had an old ps hose from something else that had the correct fitting to go in the return side of gearbox - I cut it off, put a flare on the end of that, rubber return hose over it, clamped both ends and it'd DONE!!!
I filled the pump and will let it set over night, tomorrow, find a belt, lift the front and start purging air!!! Thanks again man! now... NOTE:- the high pressure side is closest to the frame, return, closer to the tire.

I found a hose that did not need a adapter. Part is a edelman pn# 70917
