How to tell what year frame I have

I purchased a frame and body from two different people so I have no idea as to what year my frame is. All of my body panels are 73-80. My frame has the cross members that have the round cutouts for reduced weight. Other than the cutouts, how can I determine what year my frame is? I am trying to avoid wasting money on the incorrect body mounts and checking to see if I have to modify anything else. I searched but came up with lots of information that was hard to sort through. Thanks for the help.

The front frame horns on a 73-80 are rounded and follow the contour of the bumper a little . 81-87 frames are cut straight and at an angle if that helps . Frank

Re: How to tell what year frame I have

Just looked at the frame and the front frame horns are not rounded, they are straight and at an angle. From what I have read, I guess I have to do some work on that front section of the frame to get my 73-80 body and bumper to fit right.

The original vin number should be stamped in the frame. It's an elusive little devil, but start by looking on the drivers side between the front suspension and the front cab mount. If it's not buried under a layer of gunk get those numbers and we can tell you exactly what year it started life.

Re: How to tell what year frame I have

My apologys fo butting in but when i read this i realised that it would be a good idea if knew a little more about my truck. For starters I have 2 different numbers on my front horns and after reading this i realised that the horns say it is a 73-80 but the front clipp was a 82ish and bolted right up. Any how the numbers on the driverside of the horns are 80613 and on the other side the numbers are 70612 so any information would be great.

Re: How to tell what year frame I have

I've got the same problem. I know I've got the early style frame, but I don't know the exact year. I have T8S517353 on the pass side, top of frame rail, between cab mounts. I also have 7S483 on the driver's frame horn. Someone has told me it was a 78 model, but I would really like to know for sure. Thanks
