longhorn to stakeside?
Okay, heres the deal. I have a really really nice 1970 one ton longhorn. My problem is that I need a work truck I can really work with without fear of damaging my near perfect orginal bed. What I am proposing is to remove the longhorn bed, put it in storage, add dual rear wheels and a stake bed so I can get some work done. I figure that if I ever change my mind, I could reverse the process. The only thing holding me back is the fact that this truck is such a cherry original, but original or not, it will have to work or I'll have to sell it. But in my area, nobody wants to pay more than $1000 for any truck. So I am stuck. I put this question to you all in hopes that you could persuade me or help me make my mind. I am clearly torn. I will try a poll.

Option E......none of the above! i think keep the longhorn, & get a fugly old truck to do the nasty stuff! I have a 78,79,& 80 K 20 with flatbed(its a real Mutt!), but runs good, & I dont worry about scratchin or dingin it. keep that old truck......you know you will be kickin your @ss if you let it go......

I would remove the bed and go with the flatbed option. It's a great idea as long as you find a good place to store the bed so you avoid any damage to it. Flatbeds are cool!!!!

J/K... But I agree on buying a turd truck...liike a 73 - 87 type which are a dime a dozen, and work it to death. (I know you been to my longhorn site and discovered your rig is one of 1404 built....right? |

Better yet. Sell me the bed, use the $$ to put on the flatbed, then you have a cherry flatbed. Way better than driving a beater.

I have been to your site, and on that site is the twin of mine, with white roof, gold main section, and lower white. Mine is a CC30 CST, just like that one. I love the truck but never use it, and it is stored out in the snow since I have no place to put it. The problem is that I need at least 4k for the truck to sell it, since I have about 10k in it. You should buy it.

That was a board member's truck...up in canada...Pig Pen. I think he sold it. Fresh paint...the whole works.

Saw that truck on your website some time ago & fell in love with the chocolate brown . . . I have 2 gallons of it waiting to be applied to the old longhorn (someday)
I bought an ivory off-white for the two-tone - should be sweet. I'm still trying to finish the CST 20 - maybe over the holiday I can get ot out of the way.

I dont have e-pics yet, but am working on it. Tried to get my wife to scan my regular pictures, but so far, I guess my bribes have not been good enough. Needless to say, from the outside, my truck is identical to the one you pictured. Even the new paint(althought to be fair mine now needs touching up since I still run it as often as possible. 402/t400, no-spin 4.10 rear, CC30 CST. On my truck, the interior is original but needs attention to be really really nice. For now it is presentable, but the dash pad is curled at the ends, and around the bottom of the seat the material dry-rotted. The "butt" part of the seat is very nice. Basically, the next phase for the truck is doing the interior. By the time I do that, the exterior will need redoing, as I still have no shelter for it. Somebody should come rescue it from me. The killer is this, if I dont sell somthing, I cant build my garage. Anybody like pontiacs with 455's? Big ones? It is on sale!

'ol rusty: If I go to Chile, I would definitely need the trucks in order to fit in! There are quite a few roaming the roads around santiago, Arica and other places. The northern desserts are drier than Arizona as well. I've been there 4-5 times, and guess what, the Chile option is a real one for retirement anyway, or if I ever have a go-round with the law or IRS.
Thanks all for input, although the votes are pretty evenly split between all four options. I will try to get pictures onto the board, but I am at the mercy of my wifes technical knowhow. Anyone whos married should understand.
