brake rod swap for power booster?

I'm stuck - putting an 83 brake power booster in my 66, looks like I need to use the '66 rod to get enough length for pedal travel. (The 66 rod is adjustable for length). I have the 83 booster apart, but can't figure out how to get the small barrel-shaped end with the spring underneath off the end of the 83 rod. And will the 66 rod attach properly if I do get the 83 apart?
I know a pic would be helpful here, but no digital camera available right now. Any help appreciated. Anyone have a clue?

I've not done it this way before. They way I've done them is to cut both rods so that you use the the original booster rod from the booster to under the dash in a convenient area. Then cut the original rod from your truck forward from the pedal at a point that meets the booster rod, and weld the two together. You need to make sure you leave yourself enough adjustment in the rod to compensate for any error there may be in the final length.

If you don't have welding capabilities, just do the cutting and fitting and take it to a reputable welding/fabrication shop. They shouldn't charge much to weld it for you. Hope this helps

Thanks for the info, guys - looks like I'll probably have to go the welding route on the rod if I use the booster I have.
Or I may just save up for one of the really cool aftermarket units with the correct rod, MC and proportioning valve attached. Sad part is, they cost more than the ENTIRE 83 parts truck I bought!

Thats exactly what I had to do on the Chief....Although I just lengthened the stock rod with some round stock. No booster just a manual master out of a 67 Impala.

i looked through your build and didnt see it.im planning on useing the dual until i install the power unit and disc brake setup.
