Re: roll bar/cage
So I take it that you are just doing this for looks, or for some safety, drag racing? How you do it and what you make it out of are all dependent on that answer. As far as if it's been done yes there are a few drag trucks on here with cages and roll bars. Mine is simular to the one you show, but to pass NHRA specs. has the back bars on it. It was custom built by a chassis builder and is tied into the frame, not sure what you would like to know in particular so ask away.

Re: roll bar/cage
71Dragtruck: What are your forward down bars tied into? The inner back bars appear to be tied into the frame, while the outers are to plates and then to the cab floor sheetmetal. No?

Re: roll bar/cage
nitrofn: I like your truck! Looks like you have a LOT of work in it. Cool!
I've been considering a roll bar set-up. Probably a 6 point (along the lines of 71Dragtruck, add the inners). The bar across the knees bothers me, but I can fully see where it could become a necessity (just to be within the rules) when the speeds climb. Honestly, I'd like to take my truck out to the Silver State Challenge or just to the ECTA meet (can't think of where it's held. Starts with an "M' ). I want to do a little drag racing, some SCCA auto cross and the top end stuff - all in a truck! But, I have to be within the rules. And safety is a paramount consideration anyway.

Re: roll bar/cage
The forward bars also attach to the floor with plates, as well as the outer back bars. The inner back bars do go to the frame as well as the top back bars out the rear window. The design was approved by the head NHRA inspector up here, the rule states the roll bar must be tied into the frame on full frame non unibody vehicles, just doesn't say at all 6 points. Some guys will take them through the floor and to the frame as well.

Truckstr,Maxton NC is probably the place you are looking at.I want to go see what they are doing there myself.I think it's a mile track from an old airstrip. Some of them are running 160's +.
