Need advice Please..
First off, the question I will be asking I already know is worthless without a picture.. BUT I want to get the thread going while I find time to get pictures. The questions are below the following general description:
I have a survivor 1967 C10 250/6 base model LWB with original 12K miles. It only has factory option added chrome trim and hd rear bumper. The tailgate is missing due to the original intended use was to be used with a cab over topper/camper. I was told by the owner the truck was purchased without a tailgate that had been negotiated out in trade at the dealer for two additional wheels and high profile HD tires (NEVER USED), which I also have. The spare tires were never used because “the truck with camper and tires would not clear the barn” per the original owner… This truck is all-virgin with exception to one heater hose, tail pipe, cap and rotor (although I have the originals), oil filter and plugs. The complete records I have represents only two oil changes and a GM right rear fender replacement back in 1970 from a mishap on the farm. The tires, belts, bulbs, brakes, interior, and everything else are all GM factory original. The paint is stained from the car cover getting wet in the barn and the finish looks dull and worn on the edges. However, the truck is dent and rust free with exception to some minor surface rust on the frame where some of the undercoat fell off over years. Engine and trans operate perfectly. Questions: 1, Should I keep this original and not touch this truck? 2, Should I clean this up, airbrush the paint over the thinning paint areas, buff it and hope for the best ..... or, 3, Should I restore/update this truck with v8, power options, AC, brakes and new paint? Any idea what this is worth “as a survivor” vs what it could be worth with latest updates Thanks in advance for your comments... Pics upon request.. scott |

Re: Need advice Please..
i would say polish the paint that is there and see how it turns out. wax can work miracles.
other than that, dont touch it!!! leave the 250 and everything! or sell it to someone who wants a perfect original and get a hacked one to "update"

Re: Need advice Please..
I agree with above comments. The truck would be worth more in it's orginal condition. May be not now, but in the future.
I made some mistakes on my 68 GMC that had 26K original miles and all stock that I wouldn't want to see you do. I replaced the standard brake/steering and made it p.s. and p.b. (easier to drive). Then, I replaced the original transmission (no synchro's) to newer 3 speed standard with synchro. The problem is that I discarded all of the old parts instead of keeping them in case I ever wanted to go back to original... |

Re: Need advice Please..
Thank you all for your comments. I am trying to avoid making any mistakes myself not knowing really the value of what I have found. I have a "jones" about getting this one all customized, lowered and pretty again, however there is something very unique about how it looks, as is. This is why I need the advice.
Is there any do's and don't(s) on what is allowed for "survivors" without impacting the classification and/or value? Thanks again.. |

Re: Need advice Please..
It depends on what your plans are. You could make good money if you wanted to. Or keep it stock and drive. Theres buiders that would want a 12k mile truck. If I had it the 6 would go and small block it.

Re: Need advice Please..
It yours to do with what you please, but if I had it, I would take it to someone to see about having the paint buffed out. It's pretty easy to burn the paint if you don't know what you are doing (maybe you do, I just don't know you ). I am guessing that there is someone who will be willing to pay a premium for an all original 12K truck. Can you say Barrett Jackson??
Heck, you could probably have that thing detailed, get the paint cleaned up, and sell it for enough to buy and build one bad-arse 67-72 for yourself!
