Re: Scrap It -- Or Drive It ??
Please don't scrap that truck. My 71 GMC is way rustier than your truck and im still proud to drive it. I would rather drive old rusty than a new truck.

DRIVE IT!! With the value of these trucks rising like they are, there's no way I'd crush any SWB truck!

Re: Scrap It -- Or Drive It ??
Drive it till the sheet metal falls off it, then you've got a disc brake swb frame to start a project, mind you, this whole process could take a few years...keep on truckin'

Re: Scrap It -- Or Drive It ??
Ditch the back bumper, paint the front bumper black rattle can, ditch the mirrors, lower it; and either drive the you know what outa it, or sell it for a million, patina trucks are the trend. I still scratch my head as to why, but it is a cool truck, don't give up on it....did I mention I LOVE SHORT STEPS!!!

Re: Scrap It -- Or Drive It ??
Drive it, fix what ya can if ya want but always remember K.I.S.S (not the band either). Its actually cheaper to get parts for and fix than a newer truck (post fuel injection and computers). Thats the biggest appeal for my truck...........I can fix the dang thing without a PHd and a slide rule.
Just my .02 cents

Re: Scrap It -- Or Drive It ??
I wouldn't even bother with that cab, just drive it as is...
BUT, if you want or need some metal experience, a crap cab is a great place to get some practice, who cares if it isn't perfect.

Re: Scrap It -- Or Drive It ??
This has some scary rust on the cab, but only scary because its not fixed yet. Like 67chevyRedneck said, learn to fix on this one. If you screw up, so what. I love that my truck is all truck and I can throw scap iron in the back without hurting the multi million dollar paint job. Call it patina, or rust, or usable. this is a great truck to repair.
If you don't want to, I think you scrub it up a little, and sell it. Then buy one that is farther along or already finished. Remember that finished trucks sometimes still have the same rust problems yours has, they've just be hidden better.

Re: Scrap It -- Or Drive It ??
Drive it! Definitely no need to scrap that truck. Fix the stuff that bothers you and enjoy the truck for what it is. Nothing says you can't enjoy it like it is then later on throw on a different cab and fix it up more.
Like said above, beaters are cool! I love driving my K5 which is pretty rough compared to my K20.

Re: Scrap It -- Or Drive It ??
Try your hand at body work with it. Patch the roof and the rockers, put a better hitch on it and use it to haul another SWB for the project. Then you get a show truck and a work truck. The only thing better than a good Chevy truck is 2 good Chevy Trucks.

Re: Scrap It -- Or Drive It ??
Thanks for all the input guys ----- i guess the thing is like a boxer dog - so ugly its cute.
The overwhelming majority has spoken -- only 4 votes to trash the body , vs 25 or 30 to drive it as is for awhile. At the rate i work, if i took it apart tomorrow, it would still take me 6 months to rebuild the chassis anyway. With a big block 75 c-10 project in process and a diesel Blazer in the planning stages, the easiest thing to do with this one is to just drive it occasionally to freak out the squares. I was going in a pro street direction with my 69 anyway - i don't need a factory swb frame if i am going to ladder bar it. The body work practice idea does have merit, i am casually looking for a new welder, and working on the skillz on this one would have far less consequences than working on my 69 or 75 Once again, thx for your opinions, -- i guess its a keeper until i get tired of looking at the rusty thing in my driveway -- then i''' ditch it |

Re: Scrap It -- Or Drive It ??
patina and rust are NOT the same thing ... repair the rust and drive the stew out of it.
