ECE's Cup Holders!

I do not know if this has been covered or not so I did my usual while installing mine. I stopped by ECE last time I was down in Fresno and saw this for the first time and thought it would be a great addition to Low Buck (since I don't smoke).

It was $55 and took all of an hour and a half to install. I do not know if they have these parts made or if they are a factory unit for some other vehical and they just make the mounting plate for our truck. Ether way it is a great piece that is of factory quality noit some flimsy unit like we have all seen before with other parts like this. Their instructions are good but in black and white so I thought while I was at it I would do my own version.

1) First thing is to remove your AC/Heater control panel and then your Ash tray. Mine had 4 screws holding it in but some may be spot welded (according to their directions) and you will need to follow their directions for this.

2) Unpact your parts and you will find every thing you need for the install.

3) You need to drill out the pop rivit that holds on the face of the ash tray.

4) Mark and cut the old mounting lip off as shown and then bend up the two tabs on each end.

5) Next is to clip on the new backer plate that will hold you door in place.

6) It slide over a notch from the top and then you flip it over and add 2 clips to secure the plate to the slid out cup holder.

7) Once that is done you simply clean the inside of your old door real well (I sanded mine and used a wax and grease remover) and stick it to the door mounting plate with the double back tape that comes already on the plate.

8) Then bend the tabs over the mounting plate and you are done with this step.

9) Then take your bracket that came out of the truck in step one and mark it and cut per the directions supplied in the kit.

10) After that you will cut out the two templets provided and mark the mounting holes in your bracket. Care must be taken with this step to make sure it lines up corectly once it is installed back in the truck.

11) The last step and the hardest is to re-install the modified bracket back into the truck and with your glove box removed used a mag screw driver and install the 4 supplied screws.

12) Replace the glove box, AC/Heater controll and give it a try.

Mine worked great and should help keep my water from rolling off the seat and dropping between the passenger door just when you want a sip.

that is a class act!

i've seen the ones that just stick into the hole after removing the ash tray, but not one that uses the original face plate.

thats is definitely something to look into, in my opinion.

I have not seen it before on their site as well but saw it in their show room. Give Terry a call and tell him that Kevin from the site said to hook you up! Well that and regular price should get you one shipped right out.

I bought one like this from GMC Paul's a while back and the instructions indicated that it came from Old Air (or Vintage Air - can't remember which). Haven't installed it yet but it looks pretty much the same.

Not to jack this thread, but here is another option from a fellow board member. I made one for mine this summer and love it. Plus it catches the spills too and can hold your cell phone/wallet as well. About $10 for everything (cupholder from Wally World).

Yup...it's pretty cool! Classic Trucks Magazine did a writeup on it about 6 months ago...but I've never seen anyone actually install one! Thanks for the pics!

Man, as soon as I get my gas tank moved, and get storage behind the seat, then I can quit using my ash tray for all the crap I [can] carry in it, and put one of those in.

My aftermarket air got rid of my glove box so conveniently.

I've got the same one from Old Air Products in Ft Worth and I really like it. It's all metal and the slide mechanism is very solid. Way more useful than the old ashtray ever was.

Yep it works great for cans and shorter bottles the large drink cups hit the dash and they are a bit top heavy. It is made of steel and high impact plastic. It is by far as good if not better than the new factory cup holders you get with the new $30K+ trucks.

i am going to order mine on monday. when i call i am going to tell them that kevin from lfd recommended me. i know brothers sells the same kit, but for $58. i have already taken the astray out & started cleaning everything. when i get the package i will return back to this post for more instructions... by the way are the instructions pretty detailed for doing the install??

now does this require removing one of teh factory AC hoses to the center vent? I thought a few years ago one of them did?

I just installed my set of these as well. My bracket had the plastic slides, so I did not even need to trim it. I got mine from Athey's trucks in Jan. 05 (said the invoice). Took my time installing it
