Re: Duel Batteries

Spell check will not attack you like a squirrel with rabies... you CAN use it...

Anyway, LMC makes a secondary battery tray for our trucks. I plan to use it in conjunction with the stock battery tray to house twin Kinetik HC1400 power cells.

Re: Duel Batteries

Btw, why dual batteries?
If it's for a sound system, you're going in the wrong direction.
Power comes from your alternator. If you add another battery, all that you are doing is adding another power draw.
Dual batteries became popular in the late 90's but it was all a scam.
If you need more power, go with a dual alternator setup.
I know this because I'm an electronics engineer and a former I.A.S.C.A judge.

Re: Duel Batteries

Dual battery tray, convert to a 140 amp alternator, get a battery isolater and wire it appropriately. Your batteries store the energy for times the energy is needed. I don't fully agree with the "bigger alt is more power", because the battery is what stores the energy for use.

You need this for the dual setup, plus wiring:

Re: Duel Batteries

Anyone care to post a pic of their dual battery setup? I'd like the second one to be back against the firewall on the passenger side of the engine compartment.

Wink Re: Duel Batteries

You don´t need dual batteries.. just instal a high output alternator with a bigger capacity battery

Re: Duel Batteries

I'm pretty sure he asked "how" to set up dual batteries.

Not "should" he set up dual batteries.

So maybe instead of assuming y'all know what he's planning on using them for...try asking.

Re: Duel Batteries

Smoke show. Since you mentioned mounting the 2nd battery against the passenger side firewall I can only assume you dont have A/C.. You could always use a battery mount from a CUCV..

Re: Duel Batteries

Dual batteries will really only help with large stereo installs and Diesels.

A HO Alternator is more what someone would need when adding things like electric fans, power interior, winches, extra lights, and high powered stereo equipment.

I personally have 3 batteries in my truck, and will be adding a 4th very shortly. I'll have close to 4000CA when it's all done and over 5500 amps on tap for the stereo.

Re: Duel Batteries

Winches will drain a battery quick, having a deep cycle battery and a regular battery is better than trying to run a winch off of the same battery you start your truck with and run you other accessories off of. A regular starting battery may not be able to handle being drained and recharged consistantly. Atleast with dual batteries you will always have a back up incase one goes down. If it is wired right a flip of a switch from the cab would change which battery you are running on.
