ok help me figure this out...what direction to take.
ok so i have a 67 shortbox that im getting ready to build and im trying to figure out which direction to take.
direction1 drop the shaved body on top of a c5 corvette chassis(like frizzle fry) but with twin turbo's. direction2 just make the factory chassis stronger by boxing and adding alot of x members and doing bags and adjustable shocks and sway bars etc to try and make the truck handle well. with an twin turbo ls1 and six speed. the only part i dont like about the corvette chassis is that i wont be able to use the truck for a truck, but it will be better in all other areas of driving pleasure! the only part i dont like about the stock chassis is i dont know how well it will handle with bags to get it as low as i like(and still keeping the bed floor) even with all of the mods to make it more rigid. so lets here all of your opinions good or bad!! thanks chris

I think if your going to the extremes that you are considering then the whole "using it as a truck" goes out the window.
I love the "wolf in sheeps clothing" concept.....stock appearing body with moldings, racy looking wheels, sports car handling, and crazy fast!

ok so why do you think i should go either way??
and the shockwave thing would be great but...how do i use a shockwave which in my understanding would be my spring and shock, what do i do with the leaf springs front and rear? thanks chris

I don't like the way the wheels have no dish to em when you use late model corvette chassis. I honestly don't know how they work, so maybe you can put a dished wheel on there. Ive just never seen it done on any of the trucks or cars that Ive seen sitting on a vette chassis.

Sounds to me like your gonna lower it to the point that its useless as a truck anyway. Use the vette frame and go for the "pleasure"

...or run rockers with inboard shockwaves similar to what Nate did with this C4 rear: Quote:
Those modern wheels have the lug nuts burried pretty deep and the truck bodies are a little wider than the vette so a deeper dished wheel is possible. More so in the front than the rear because the vettes have wider rear ends than front. Since mine is a stepside I'm thinking about widening the rear fenders a little. |

Re: ok help me figure this out...what direction to take.
ok, i think im gonna go look at a 99 coupe tomorrow and just get a better idea, i dont want to make a frame(dont ask me why, i just dont) i just want to either drop the body on another frame or just strengthen the one i have. if i use shockwaves i will probably try and go for the c5 chassis. now i just have to figure out how to not loose any bed space.........
frizzle fry have you figured out how to make the torque tube shorter??

Re: ok help me figure this out...what direction to take.
The tube itself is not the problem, but the shaft is. It's made of some exotic alloy that no driveline shop wants to touch. There are places making carbon fiber shafts for $3000. I'm going to work with a local shop to try to build an extension consisting of a housing, bearings and an extension shaft with female and male splines.

Re: ok help me figure this out...what direction to take.
Guys I have a buddy the has put these under several 55 chevy cars and can make them longer. I have the option to buy one to go under my blazer but I can't decide between it or a cobra irs (more gear choice for a 8.8 ford). I know the vette and the blazer have pretty much the same wheelbase but I think I would have to cut the fire wall becasue the motor will sit so far back if I don't make the torque tube longer. Pm me if you need his # for a price on modding a tube.

Yeah I know but it's 8 inches for another project of mine.
So your c5 torque tube was extended? How did you go about it and how much did it set you back? Last edited by jfman; 10-09-2007 at 02:07 AM. |
