newbie to the 47+ truck club
Hey guys. I will now be watching your threads to learn about my new truck. (new to me anyways). Last night I picked up a 1949 gmc 5 window 3/4 ton. I was going to take pic`s to post but after 3 hours of trying to get this beast out of a yard that it was sitting in for 18 years on four flats, I was in no mood to take em. I`ll do that tonight. After I unburied the wheels I noticed it was a 3/4 on split ring wheels and a floating rear end. Is this a good find or should I convert to a half ton for a daily driver? Also, did these truck come with a floor shift stock? I figured that they were all coluum shift but I`m probably wrong. well thanks for the info. I`m sure I`ll learn alot about these trucks thru you.
Mike PS: this truck is a true AZ and NM truck. the only rust is the cab corners and a spot on the drivers floor and it looks like someone lit a fire on the hood but not bad. no bondo that i can see so far and the 3 back windows are in good shape. I`ll post pic`s soon. was this a good buy for $400.00? I know but thanks again

Re: newbie to the 47+ truck club
from the Central Coast of CA.I'd say 400 bucks is good if you just got the cab with a clean title and serial/vin#. Just my opinion. As far as the transmission, mine was a floor shift. They did come with a column shift as well. As far as keeping the truck stock, if you live on a farm, they make a great work truck, as they were designed for that. I had originally wante to keep mine a 3/4 ton longbed. After driving mine for 2 years stock, I reconsidered. I have gone though the entire truck now. Check out my thread if you're interested.

Re: newbie to the 47+ truck club
no plans yet. I havent even had a chance to give it a good look thru yet. who knows what else i`ll find. It has a straight six with an oil bath but its not the origional. I have a feeling i`ll be converting to a half ton. no hot rod plans but most likely a short block will find a new home here. radiator missing. gotta find one of those. trans? I have no idea what it is. other than neutral to tug pry and force the truck out of the beer bottle and garbage pit it was in, I havent touched it yet. should i go with the s-10 conversion that seems so popular?
