Shaving drip rails!
Finally got a start on my 68 4wd project. Cut out all the interior sheet metal panels to get rid of all rust! Got it blasted and primed! Now on to the drip rails!

Re: Shaving srip rails!
nice job. I have a good bit of rot/rust around the upper corner of the windshield. I think I'm going to shave them off during the repair instead of trying to fix them...
how much did you cut off and weld up at a time? I have heard about 4-6" at a time, but it looks like you did much larger sections....? |M|

I used 16 guage 1 5/8 wide and 12" long for the center and the next 2 outters! Then progressively short as I went outboard! I did it to get rid of the rust also!

Re: Shaving srip rails!
Cool, I think I am going to pull my cab off and get into it this weekend. Just need to buy some pipe to weld the cab up nice and square before I start cutting it up(all over). Thanks for the info, it looks good

Re: Shaving drip rails!
WOW! You really tore into that thing didn't ya? Did you lose a lot of structural rigidity when the inner structure came out? Are the inner panels still good and are you planning on putting them back in?

Re: Shaving drip rails!
I welded in cross bracing before cutting out anything! The cab had a decent floor but he cowl was eat up. I gonna fab in a whole new cowl without the vents. And use Specialty Power Windows street rod wiper unit. After blasting it was in pretty good shape. Just surface rust. I'm going to reinstall all the interior metal after welding in the front patch panel where the visors go. I'll post some pics as I go along!
Thanks Mark fabshopinc.com |
