Unilite Install

Just finished building a big block from the junk yard. Put in a rebuilt Unilite dist and wired it (plug wires) the way I remembered wiring my old point set ups, and the way one of my books told me to. Something is not right, lots of popping from the carb. I looked at my 48's small block with an HEI and the #1 wires are different by two posts. Can anyone tell me where the no#1 post is located for a Unilite in relation to the slot for the light pick up?

48 ish,

There really is no designated #1 post. Mallory says to stab the distributor and rotate the engine to #1 TDC, the nearest post will be your #1 post.

Hope this helps,

Re: Unilite Install

Actually I knew that, but was at wits end having tried everything else I knew to correct the popping. Turns out that being a small block guy all my life I overlooked the need for push rod guides in the big blocks. Boy do I feel stupid....Lesson learned....
