72' Dash problems

I can't get the dash out of my truck. Does anyone know if I have to take the windshield out. Seem to be the only thing holding the dash in the truck.

Re: 72' Dash problems

I was going to take mine out also because I wanted easier access to the rear of the firewall. Although, there are a few bolts on each side - It still is tach welded as you have found out.

I inquired once before and I was told that the easiest way to remove the dash was to take the dash pad off and where you see the oval holes, carefully cut across (horizontally) the holes until the dash comes loose. I would recommend loosen the bolts but don't remove them so the dash does not fall out on you.

To install, reverse the process and tack weld where you have cut. The dash pad will cover any imperfections.

Good Luck

Re: 72' Dash problems

Remember, only the front will come off not the top

Re: 72' Dash problems

I see what you mean. I am looking at a picture of it right now. Sure would be nice to get the top off 2. Maybe removing the windshield wouldn't be a bad idea. It would allow me better access to the top of the dash.

Re: 72' Dash problems

Unfortunatly, your probably right about the windshield. Any other way, the windshield will probably crack. Try to PM mr48chev, he seems to be very knowledgable. He may have another solution, if any. He usually replies late at night.

Re: 72' Dash problems

I had a 72 parts truck that I removed the dash on. There are bolts on both sides holding the front on. The top is welded around where the windshield goes. Not gonna get it out easily. I had to use a grinder with a cutting wheel to get it out.
