speakers in cab corners?
Does anyone have any drawing plans, pictures, or a place to get that piece for the cab corners to mount 6X9 speakers for an 81-87 chevy truck?
I want to put 51/4" speakers in kick panels in the front 6X9 speakers in the back cab coners a JLAudio W13 in the center. The center sub box will also be a center console. Any help as far has cheapest or best route would be appreciated. I can't find that piece for the cab coners anywhere... HELP!!! Thanks! |

Re: speakers in cab corners?
The factory used 4X10's in the back cab corners...you'll have to fab your own brackets if you want to mount 6X9's in there. Crutchfield didn't even have brackets for 6X9's from what I researched.

Re: speakers in cab corners?
Sometimes you can score no longer made aftermarket pieces at the junkyard if you look around. The odds aren't real high though.

Re: speakers in cab corners?
There was a posting on here a while back where someone had found some home made 6x9 brackets in a junkyard which resembled the factory 4x10 brackets. They looked pretty slick and wouldn't be too hard to make, I'd say. If you did some searching on here you might be able to find the posting and pictures to get some ideas.

Re: speakers in cab corners?
77gmcjoe, are you thinking of these?
I found these a while back at a JY. I removed them and test fit them into my 73...they fit good, but not perfect. I made new templates out of posterboard with some "tweaks" to hopefully get them to fit better. Will have the "new" set made real soon, and will be able to tell then if they fit perfect. If I get them right, and it is fairly inexpensive to reproduce, I'll offer up some sets at that time.

Re: speakers in cab corners?
from what im seeing, those brackets will use the cab as the final part of the enclosure. a little silicone and some sort of sound deadener inside the new "enclosure" and they would probably do alright.

Re: speakers in cab corners?
An urban legend. Actually, most 6x9 speakers are designed to work very well in an open air environment because of their normal mounting position on the rear deck up next to the rear window. The magnets just stick through the metal and into the trunk.

Re: speakers in cab corners?
I mounted my 6x9s (Rockford Fosgate Punch) right to the existing 4x10 brackets. The magnets just stick to the back corners a bit but the brackets are secure.
I purchased the kickpanel replacements for my 3 way (Rockford Fosgate Punch) from LMC and mounted 2 tweeters above the windshield near the sunvisor mounts. Pretty tight, smaller speakers would've been better, but they're mounted. I have a custom sub box behind the seat with a 250watt amp and one of the new 10" subs that are only a couple inches thick.... driven by a Pioneer Premier deck. It has all the sound I need in it. I'll take some pics tomorrow and post them for you. Kenny

Re: speakers in cab corners?
Another option would be to buy some truck style 6*9 speaker boxes made by q-logic and put them in that corner against the cab wall. Thats how i got mine. The lower seatbelt brackets help them not to slide around. They look and sound good.

Re: speakers in cab corners?
Mine are about 4" X 10" and about 4" deep. They were under the seat, but t ere wasn't room when I switched to buckets. I fabricated (hacked up) some simple brackets they could bolt on to ends of the striker plate bolts where they stick through the cab. Turned out pretty good.
