looking to put in a new tranny
i have an 86 k10 it has a 305 which will soon be replaced with a strong 350. i am in need of a tranny as i have slipping shifts leaks and the usual with a 156xxx on the clock i dont know if it was wise but i installed a shift kit about march of 07. it helped the whole summer ran great fluid was dlean as a whistle but al of a sudden i looked and it is brown. so i dont care about gas mileage it has 33's on it and will soon have 4.10's or 3.73's my real question is what can be swaped with the 700r4?

Re: looking to put in a new tranny
Since your truck is already set up for a 700R4, it's going to be easier just to put the same thing back in. You should be able to get a beefed up 700R4 that will handle your power level.
Now, beefed up Turbo 350's and 400's are by far cheaper, but by the time you are done modifying the truck to take one of these transmissions, you will have spent enough to buy a really nice 700R4. If you were running a serious big block or you were going to be doing some SERIOUS offroading, I would tell you to use a different transmission, but for your power levels, a beefed 700R4 will do just fine. |

Re: looking to put in a new tranny
The key to making a 700R4 live is to put it in 3rd gear while plowing or towing. Overdrive on these transmissions is meant only for cruising lightly loaded.

Re: looking to put in a new tranny
the 700 can be built to handle a pretty good bit of abuse we have guys running low 10s with our 4l60e trannies just do some research make sure to look at the companies track record and the cheapest is not the best when it comes to performance trannies when you here of race trannies for 800 doallrs you better stay away I spend close to 800 dollars on parts to build a moderate 4l60e
