A V8 700 and a V8 HEI will interchange into a truck. The 700's for 6 cylinders have fewer clutches but can be upgraded if you plan on a rebuild.

Breeh,
The car now has a Goodwrench 305 crate motor in it with a 4 barrel carb. I'm assuming then it should work if it's already presently mated to a V8. Thanks

Should work fine. Both are very worthwhile upgrades. You love it when you are done!

Good point longhorn! I guess I should keep my mouth shut late at night. The mind isn't working so good then. I am not sure when the computer controlled HEI's started but that is definitely something to check out first.

I've heard Camaro and Corvette 700's are the best stock tranny's. But I have one out of a van in my truck that the builder said he upgraded to be as strong as any other 700.

That HEI isn't computer controlled I don't think, I'll have to check. It has a regular 4 barrel carb on it.......

It should work fine...but I'd highly recommend doing some upgrades to the internals when you rebuild it...the pre-'87s are signifigantly weaker.
