Dome Light Bulb

I read through 3 or 4 pages of search results with no luck for the following question:

Is there a brighter bulb than the stock one that can be used in the dome light? You just don't get a lot of light out of the stock bulb, especially with the lens in place. Anybody know anything they've stuck in there that works?

Re: Dome Light Bulb

Nope. Try a new lens. They are white instead of the aged yellow of your old one. To hot of a bulb will burn your lens.

Re: Dome Light Bulb

I've got a "festoon" type LED bulb in my dome light with white LED's. Its brighter, but not as bright as I'd like it to be. Here is the link to where I bought mine from:

What he said.

That's your best bet.

Re: Dome Light Bulb

So, lets say I wanted to replace my cargo light with one of their 1157 replacement bulbs, too. Is there anything I need to know, or is it a simple "the more LED's you spring for, the more light you'll get?" I'm refereing to the 1157-x12 VS the 1157-x19, or even the super-duper -x24...

Re: Dome Light Bulb

Depends what you are buying the 1157 bulb for. Dome shaped LED's are directional, where as the flat tipped ones spread light out a bit farther. The more LED's you have, the brighter the bulb will be (ie. 12 vs 19 vs 24). The socket is the same 1157 style, but the size of the bulbs sometimes differs.

So, what's stopping me from replacing my brake and reverse lights with these bad boys? If I could get them to combine shipping, 6 of these bulbs would be about $38. That'd be 2 brake lights, 2 reverse lights, one cargo light, and a spare. Hmmm

Any thought on these bulbs?

Edit, I guess I want red for the brake lights, though. The lens would filter almost all of an LED, wouldn't it?

Re: Dome Light Bulb

For the turn signals/brake lights, you'll need an electronic flasher.
Still, that's pretty cheap, and a quick pickup at the local parts store.

Re: Dome Light Bulb

I was afraid of that. I read it on their website. I may still go that way for the dome and reverse lights, though.

Thanks for your help, fellas.
