Talking 71 cheyenne promo model

after numerous unsuccessful tries i finally bought one on ebay. i have probably bid on a dozen or so over the past few years and always got sniped at the end. this time i had a couple extra bucks and decided i would either own this thing or someone else would pay a stupid price to win it. well, i own it but someone pushed my "stupid" bid nearly to the max.
how many others own one here? just curious since i've never seen one in person, only on ebay. now i need a 72 version
after i get it home, i'll post some pics. and by the way, there's another one on there right now.

Re: 71 cheyenne promo model

I think Fard may have had them too - I have two stangs that are all white with chrome. Had 'em since I was a kid - One about 1/30th scale and the other about 1/40th. Also early 70's I'd say (I'm not a blue oval guy)

Re: 71 cheyenne promo model

You guys can string my innards for this if you want.

Sad but true sory.

Before I was born, my dad was a parts manager at a local Chevy dealership through the 50's and early 60's.

He had one of the most complete collections of promo's that I can recall seeing.

Trucks, cars , you name it.

Kept them hidden in a box in the attic.

You know where this is going, don't you?

My brother, and then myself, completely decimated them before we were 5 years old.

Re: 71 cheyenne promo model

The promo were bought through dealerships and if you ordered a car or truck you could get one if asked. My dad is retired from GM chevy division he had some to.
My story was I didn't know what happened to them.
I blew a split window corvette to peices with some fire crackers.
My dad knows now but for years I denided I knew. Like he didn't know it!

I had a '65 Mustang promo, and a '70 Maverick promo - destroyed them in my youth. I guess that's why they're so valuable.

Re: 71 cheyenne promo model

Andy,I`ve seen promos detailed like your`s is.They came monochromatic. If it`s molded in ochre it`s a true promo. They were made by the companies that made models from the same molds.Notice they all have 67/68 CST interiors?Never changed that mold.

Re: 71 cheyenne promo model

Tim,
i'll go check to see what color the one i won is. i really didn't pay attention to the color, i've tried too many times to own one and just decided to throw a high bid-i thought it was high anyway-at it but at the end someone pushed me almost to my max bid. i'll post pics when it arrives. how many of them do you have ? this is my first, i have lots of other die casts in 67-72 plus plastic models, hot wheels etc. in my basement which was covered over in 1975, i have an old 72 blazer model, i'm seriously considering cutting a hole in the floor to see if it's still intact or if some critters tore it up.

No it wasn't....you were just kids and doing what kids do.....being kids and finding dad's stash of "toys". My dad had a '49 Ford promo and I enjoyed playing with it....but you know the rest of the story, huh?

Jerry, cut that hole!!!!!!!The boxes may have gotten messed up,but maybe not.Honestly,I`m not sure how many I have.I have 7 out on display, but I know I have others I`ve bought in my toy stash.I recall one that is the darker blue than medium blue.I guess it`s a`72.I was told `72s came in red and blue.I`ve never looked at any books on them,so I only know what I see. This guy,Steve Butler,in York,PA put`s out this book called "Auto Quotes" that is a price guide for promos. He deals in top-notch vintage vehicle toys.Real big on Tootseytoys.

There isn't a stupid price if you want it bad enough!

I want pay more than $50.00 for one.
I got one off E-Bay for less than $40.00 and my dad has one for me for free whenever I get up there to get it.
