Tranny?

was driving home today , in my trusty ole 67 and my (3speed) trans starting making a weird noise ? while in 1st gear letting out on the clutch it makes a noise like something is hitting the bellhousing? and also does this in 2nd gear and i get a small vibration while in 2nd? when i shift to 3rd its as smooth as glass ..the noise goes away when the clutch is pushes in..i just put a clutch in it last year and i am pretty easy on it as far a burn outs or dumping it..goes...my step dad says its a throw out bearing...any help would be awsome.......tony

Re: Tranny?

will do Andy....<this would include the tranny mount also? would a throw out bearing make a noise? it may sound dumb but i swear it sounds like its coming from under the floor.....EDIT...may sound like im stupid but when i got my clutch kit from napa it didnt include a throw bearing ,and the truck only had 56,000 original so ,being it was my only D.D at the time i just put it all back together...it has 89,000 on it now...

Re: Tranny?

shoulda got a pilot bearing too.
While it is probably the clutch or in the tranny its self.... a messed up mount (tranny mounts too) can make lotsa funny noises too.

Re: Tranny?

sounds to me like a problem in the bearings for the counter shaft. (it goes away when it is in 3rd)

Re: Tranny?

yeah its gone in third...so? talked to longhorn man last night and did his suggestions.. i cant find anything wrong outside.as far a mount or anything..so im thinking its internal.? i got some things working on a used one. a buddy of mine has a good 4spd that came out of an 82 1/2 ton..so im thinking i might go this route if i can...few questions... assuming they are the same length ? <i havent see it yet> can i used the same clutch and bellhouseing? also is the tranny crossmember the same? is this a common thing to change? 3sp to 4? i have heard that i will have to use the rear yoke from the 4 spd as the splines are differnt? andy help would be awsome......tony....

Edit: thanks Andy for letting me bug ya.......and calming me down a little the day before....
