Np205 Shifter

So, in getting my 205 ready to go in my truck, it looks like the shifter mechanism would have a tendancy to be difficult to shift around. I was wondering what you guys think of the stock shift set-up. I have found a stock Stainless version for $45 + shipping.
It looks reasonably OK until you get to playing with the LO range selections.

Just looking for your opinions on the stock stick set-up.

I haven't shifted my K5's NP205 much but the few times I have, it seems to shift very easily. I think it shifts a a bit easier than the K20's T221.

WOW! My 221 shifted effertlessly, once I fixed the gremlins the PO left for me. OH yeah, and tighten all the bolts up...

I'm trying to decide if it's worth the $$ for a replacment shifter, or if I'll be happier in the long run with a litte extra $$ for a twin stick kit. I don't need the T-S, and I know that. I'm way past doing it just for the cool factor.

Between my Rockwell and NP205,they are about the same...both great.
And if you get a shifter from a CST or a higher optioned 4wd..you get the chrome (I assume it's chrome) shifter.I do have a stock black shifter from a 70-72 NP205 to fit your truck if you need one.What year truck did you get the t-case from?
Here is the shiney shifter I pulled from a '72 CST Blazer that was smashed in a car crash for my '71 K10 SWB,what a shame,it was one of the nicest blazers in the region

I'd rather have a poorly painted black shifter than a chrome one. but whatever goes in, will probably be matte black... anti

Found a junkyard less than 10 miles from my house that has a 70 or 71 blazer. the blazer was rough, and by the time they got the tranny & X-fer out, it was trashed. but there is a cover (white "camper" thing on back) for it that looks salvagable with a lot of cleaning and a little TLC. They have 2 or 3 of these old trucks hiding in various locations. Most are beyond salvage, but there's 1 that might be a good candidate. I'll go back this spring and have another look at it... If nothing else, I'm going to get the air filter housing off of it (missing V-8).

Well, to he!! with practicality, going with the twin-stick set-up!

From my understanding, you are supposed to modify the shift rails to prevent accidentaly having 1 in HI & 1 in LO? Anyone know for sure? Meaning, I can go w/o modifying the rails, but I'll have to be careful of what positions I've got the shifters in. (I'll pull the rails and modify them sometime next summer, when I rebuild the tranny & x-fer).
Will be the nice thing about an extra tranny. I can rebuild the extra tranny, and then pull the x-fer & tranny, and just rebuild the x-fer and re-install in a weekend...

The modfication to the shift rails is to allow you to get all of the available combinations (2WD low range and front drive only low and high range). If you only want/need what the factory offered (rear wheel drive high range and four wheel high and low), no modifications to the rails are necessary.
