Believe it or not but this DID happen....
My buddy picked up a 350(?) for $75 from an ad in the paper...
all it said was "small block chevey motor hear run $75 call...." (And yes, they did mispell Chevy) We show up and its lying on its side in the dudes garage covered in a bunch of **** and chained to one of them flat bed cart things your get from Lowes . So then the dude drags it out into the clear and jumps the starter off a battery and the motors bouncing around on this cart. And just sounds like ass because there is no exhaust of any type...just dumping straight out of the heads. So my buddies like "What ever, $75 is cheaper than a core in most cases" so we take it. We get it home and tear it apart and the Number 7 rod and piston were missing....****ing gone! So we call the dude back, and he says he dont know because the motors not his....its his neighbors. Told us he was tired of all his neighbors trash "mucking" up the neighborhood so he took it upon himself to clean up his neighbors yard.

Re: Believe it or not but this DID happen....
Man, I'm glad he's not my neighbor! I don't have trash around my yard, but if he's selling off his neighbors stuff, what else is he capable of? Of course, it sounds like his neighbor's a real piece of work... missing a piston...
Anybody ever see that video where a guy calls out the police because his dog is "real sick" and he can't afford to take it to the vet to have it put to sleep?? I'll have to find it and post it in the gen disscusion forum.

Re: Believe it or not but this DID happen....
You know, I've had an occasional screw or washer left over. But I think I'd figure out what the extra piston was laying on my work bench. . . (I HOPE!)

Re: Believe it or not but this DID happen....
Thats great!
my friend got a sbc from a junk yard, we got it running but it never ran right, we pulled the heads off and someone put a wood block in # 4cyl and it had a hole in it for the connecting rod to ride up in down in, it fit perfect in the bore and the connecting rod fit in the hole well, a little worn though. What we are all forgetting is these are CHEVY ENGINES!! not PHORDS 71rat

Re: Believe it or not but this DID happen....
Actually, thats one of those rare small block 306s.
Rather than fix something, I think I am going to take the "removal" approach next time something goes wrong with my ride. "Yep, them d@mn brakes started making a noise so I took them off and threw them away..."

Re: Believe it or not but this DID happen....
I have seen similiar, only worse. I worked at a grocery store when I was 16 and there was old guy that was mentally challenged that the storeowner basically kept up. He let him sweep up and move things around the store and at his farm. He saved up a little scratch, and bought himself a car so the store owner wouldn't have to pick him up any longer. It was a mid 70's Pontiac Bonneville with a 400 that had a nasty skip, but it ran good enough for him to drive around town. He drove it for years and it started pouring oil. Knowing that I always fooled with cars, the storeowner said he'd pay me to replace valve cover gaskets or the oil pan gasket for the guy. At a quick glance I thought it was the VC. They dropped it off at the house, and after I got it jacked it up, I realized the there was a piece of sheet metal JB welded to the side of the block. After a little further investigation, I realized that there was no #6 piston, rod and no rockers arms on the valves. It had blown up some point, and the piston, rod, and rockers were removed and the hole where rod came out had a patch panel on it! I told the storeowner what I had found and he ended buying the guy another car. Out of curiousity, I drove it around the block, and I cannot believe the poor ol guy drove that car so long. It vibrated so bad anything over 35-40 mph that I thought it was gonna shake my teeth out!
