trucks with utility beds (pics wanted)
I am really considering buying a 68 3/4 ton 2wd with a utility bed for work. I do construction and have always thought that it would be cool to have one of these trucks with a utility bed on it to work from. Anybody out there have pics of any 67-72 with a utility bed. I just would like to see what others have done with thiers. Thanks

Re: trucks with utility beds (pics wanted)
I was in Sacramento in March and there was a plumbing company(I think) that still had quite a few of those in use. I believe it was on Power something drive. You might check with them also.PM sent.

Re: trucks with utility beds (pics wanted)
Those are all pretty nice trucks. The jury is still out to whether I am going to get the one I am interested in as I am still waiting for some more pics before I drive up and take a look at it. Please keep the pics coming.

Here's another option from my photo files (not my truck).
Stepside with utility boxes instead of fenders: |

Re: trucks with utility beds (pics wanted)
Photos came from a truck listing that was sold on eBay a couple years ago, I think. I liked it too, so I saved the pix.
I agree. Lose the cap. The original bed wood inside the bed was near-virgin, from having had that topper over it all of its' lifetime. |

"here is a link to one for sale in so cal."
That was the one I was looking for before I sunk all my funds in a 93 C3500 6.5 TD "Been for sale for a while:" There must be a real glut of decent trucks in CA. |

Jeremy, I don't want to rain on your parade, but if you run up & down Hwy 80 w/ a utility bed, you'll probably have to got thru the Antelope scales, & any other scales you pass. That'll make you eliegible to be pulled over for an inspection. The only reason I know this is the mechanic where I work unkowingly "blew" the Cordelia scales while driving the co. service truck; & a CHP dude down the road nailed him for not pulling in. I don't know what the citation cost him. But whatever the fine was, he'd have been money ahead just staying @ home that day. That's just my .02. I don't want to see anybody catch unwanted grief. Or, you may just want to check w/ the CHP 1st. |

Re: trucks with utility beds (pics wanted)
As long as you`re under 10,000 GVW you should be fine...single wheel.Technically all dual wheel pickups should pass through the scales.
I`m a big fan of utility beds.I ordered low-profile ones when I could afford them. The medium olive 4wd was converted from an enclosed walk-in body and is a standard height utility bed.All mine were Reading.

Re: trucks with utility beds (pics wanted)
Was it possible your friend had a truck bigger than a one ton or was hauling or doing something on the questionable side?. I never stop for scales and have never been hassled. I just can't see it happening.

Re: trucks with utility beds (pics wanted)
That old service truck has since been replaced; but I'm pretty sure, if memory serves, that it was not a dually.
I do know that the kid got stopped for "blowing" the scales though. I just threw that previous anecdote out there because I'd hate to see anybody, much less a board member, get racked for a similar problem. Phone calls are free, tickets cost money.
