Fat Man IFS

Hello,Has anyone used the Fatman Ifs on their 67 72.I know that the drop member is real popular on the board and I know its a great piece,I was just looking for anyone who has experience with the FM unit.I'm not looking to lay frame ,just want to get rid of the stock crossmember and bring my front wheelbase in a little.You can email me direct if you want.Thanks

First, I guess welcome to the board. It says you joined in 02, but this is only your second post. There's a couple other board members over your way and quite a few in the puget sound area. There's a meet scheduled at XXX Root Beer in Issaquah on Januar 20. Check the Northwest forum.

As for the fatmat kit, I didn't think they fit the 67+ trucks. If someone's done it, they're probably on the board.

Hello,Thanks,My project has been on the back burner for too long and now its time to get it done.Yes Fm does make the unit for the 67 72.I have talked to a couple of guys who have used it and they are happy so far,just wanted to get as much input as I can.I have a 72 2/w drive Blazer that I have owned since 1980,its a sweet no rust garage kept rig that I will post pics of soon.Thanks again.

I have the Fatman kit and it is great! Really easy to install bolts right into place!!!

Sounds cool. What are the differences between the fatman and others, like the Porterbuilt?

Porterbuilt uses I believe Corvette stuff

Fatman uses Mustang II style stuff and can be ordered with coil springs, coil-overs and air bags. Your choice. It also uses cheaper easier to find hardware and swaps to rack and pinion.

Here is the '65 C-10 framne under my IFS. I bobbed the front rails 12-inches.

Anyway it is the same kit for '63-'72 C-10s.

The crossmember bolts in. That is me drilling the two additional holes in the frame. It utilizes four of the factory holes so you can't go wrong. There is no welding needed either. I went the coil-over route with 5 on 5 lugs.

FilmGuy has one in his truck, you may want to PM him and ask what he thinks. I know that he had to mod it to get his truck to sit where he wanted it too but you may not want to be that low.

Porterbuilt comes in two flavors, C4 Vette like you mentioned and one that uses stock or ART control arms with bags. Both kits swap you over to rack and pinion.

yeah, on my truck I used the coilovers and it dropped it pretty well, I think Brent advertises a 6-inch drop but you can get drop spindels and coil-overs.

It rides great but you will have to change your linkage and add a spacer on the motor mount if you want to use the stock style mounts. If not you can weld in a set of tubular ones.
