Best day of my life....

Dude at work is buidling a rat rod....out of a little 20-something Ford pick up. He has just the body, bed, and frame so far.

To enhance the old "rustic" appearance he let me shoot his truck. I pumped about 40 rounds into it almost everywhere.

It was great.

I have a hard time ruining any old vehicle. We had a GEO metro that I gave to a friend, my son said it would be fun to take it out to the farm & "Jump it & roll it & stuff". I said I cant just wreck stuff for the fun of ruining it. What can I say, Im a car guy...

Just wondering, how is a bullet-hole filled vehicle "rustic" looking?

I completely agree. No matter what car, even if its something I really hate, something that I have a passion for hating (ie. just about everything Suzuki except for their Samurai), I just can't be bothered to wreck it or damage it just for 'the fun of it'. Even if its useless, doesn't have an engine, just a barely rolling chassis and body standing on cement blocks, I can't bring myself to take a sledgehammer or rifle to it... Just can't... For that, you get rep!

Anyway, do you have any pics of this 'rustic' beast? If it was me, I'd just pour some corrosive chemicals on the body to make it look rusted and corroded, leaving a few drops on some areas longer before washing the chemicals off.

Re: Best day of my life....

I remember when I was a kid back in the 60's seeing many old cars riddled with bullet holes. There was a pair of Hudson Terraplanes 1936? all shot to hell for someone's amusement. I don't agree with this type of "patina" on a vehicle, but that's only my opinion. Opinions are like a-holes, everyone has one.

No, actually, it doesn't.

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/rustic

"Lacking refinement or elegance; coarse."
"Charmingly simple or unsophisticated."

These are about the only two definitions that fit with a car.

I know you expected everyone to be excited, but that '20 ford is a treasure. It just seems a little crazy to be excited about pumping part of our national history full of holes, I guess.

It`s a good day to find an old car body that some low-brow hasn`t shot up.A rat rod is really just an unfinished hot rod.Once the fad ends these rat rods can be finished, unless the "effects" inflicted on them are irreversible.

I'd do it if it was an Asian mobile. I would not do it if it was an American vehicle.

Re: Best day of my life....

Even if rustic meant old and run-down (which it doesn't), that equation doesn't include bullet holes. My wife calls me old and run-down sometimes, I'm sure glad we don't have a gun in our house.

At any point, if it is what the owner wanted for his "Driver Returns On Foot", then it is his perogative.

Re: Best day of my life....

You are right about one thing,,,,,rat rods are really cool! I have always thought so.

So it wasn't a rat rod until it was shot up?

I have to agree with most everyone else though. Shooting something up just for the sake of putting holes in it is NOT cool. I own quite a few guns and am extremely pro firearms but trashing a car just cause you can is in my OPINION,,,,,,,,dumb as dumb can be.

And finally if you guys want to trash vintage iron,,,,,,,,, whatever,,,,,,,, its your guys parts.
