should i buy/ invest
i just bought a 72 SWB. in the process of fixing..
my question is, there is a 71 SWB here in town that is in better shape than my 72. the 71 needs a hood, one rocker and one cab corner.. all floors and underneath is solid.. 307 3 speed.. bed is good too.. is it a good idea to try and buy this. im tempted, but yet i already have one. we have talked, and he said he would sell it to me for 3200 i think i can get it for about 3000. he says he is gonna take it to teh auto auction in feb.. should i jusp on this? thanks |

Re: should i buy/ invest
well what i would do is this....how i figure it you allready have a project started and for three thousand dollars you could pretty much take about five hundred and replace any troubled areas that 72 has...so in my mind for far less then it would cost you to buy another truck you have a truck with all good metal and you can invest the rest in the rest to finish your current truck...three grand goes a long way for the DI(if you bought all the metal from lmc itll cost you about six hundred )

Re: should i buy/ invest
thinking of these as investments is a bad idea, unless you're getting $100 trucks and chopping for parts

Re: should i buy/ invest
I have to agree with all the above statements. It's basicly a money pit and a labor of love, much like women.
Anyway, it's a loser "investment" unless you have a "builder name" attached to it e.g. Chip Foose, Boyd Coddinton or can get it on stage at Barret Jackson on a Saturday when the money is there. Not to say you can't turn these trucks for a few bucks if you do rebuild it "right" and find deals on the right parts, or buy beaters and part them out, but for the most part when you factor in your time at a nickel an hour, you will be lucky to break even.

Re: should i buy/ invest
best thing with the builder you have now is you can build it the way you want. that is the reason i bought the truck i have i will build it up just like i want it. drive it till the wheels fall off and then rebuild it again.

Re: should i buy/ invest
Stick with the 72 and see if you can pick up $3000 worth of parts for it... $3000 will go a long way on one of these trucks.
