1972 BB Truck Value

Hi All,
I'm being forced to sell my 1972 BB Truck. I have several people interested in buying the truck. I need help in determining the fair market value.

1972 Shortbed. 400 turbo, 342 posi, pwr steering & brakes, fac. air, full guages incl. factory tach. Lots of performance parts. (Hi Per. HEI, Performer RPM, Q-Jet, Heavy duty cooling system, Flowmasters, Receiver hitch, Rear sway bars, 268 cam.) Just to name a few.

I'm asking for your opinions on what the might be worth. Thanks in advance.

Re: 1972 BB Truck Value

Do you have a pic of the build sheet and interior? Has it been repainted. Is it #'s matching? Lot of factors, so the more info will help us help you. Beautiful truck, I'm sorry you have to sell.
I'd say list high if it's the real deal. You could always drive it to my house for a better estimate. Just park it in the driveway. LOL

Re: 1972 BB Truck Value

I bought the truck used 15 to 18 years ago. I do not have the factory build sheet. I think the motor and tranny are original, but have no proof. The front of the truck has have been repainted. (Hood and right front fender.) It happened before I bought the truck, so I'm not sure why. You might have noticed the front grill was repainted by me to black and silver. (I liked the look.) The guage set is not original to this truck. I changed the guages to get the facotry tach. Interior seat is a cloth seat of my own design. Chrome air cleaner and valve covers are not original. (They are original GM parts, just not on this truck.)

Re: 1972 BB Truck Value

if it's as solid as it looks, with a bb, auto, air, etc. i would say 10k or better, but thats just my opinion. others will chime in.

Re: 1972 BB Truck Value

15k - maybe. A factory 396 or 402 shortbed truck with A/C cab is one of the more desirable trucks among us enthusiasts.

A truck like that i would pay 12,500 for without blinking, but it may be worth more than that if you are patient

Re: 1972 BB Truck Value

Does it still have the option list on the inside of the glovebox door? That's what the other guys were asking you about. Most trucks still have em but a lot of prople don't know what they're called. As far as value goes....Is it as rust free as it looks in the pics? Really, the only way that truck could have been better equipped would be to have buckets and a console and be either red or black. It seems people pay less for them in areas were they're less prone to rust, and vice versa for rustbelt areas. It's hard to say by just looking at the pics you've provided but it will be higher than average due to the BB, A/C, Tach and what appears to be a rust free body. I'd guess anywhere from 8K to 15K depending on how it's advertised and marketed. A good detailing under the hood should also help bring the price up. I would also think Ebay is going to be a good bet on getting the most for your money. You can have it professionaly appraised for about $150-$200 but the guys on this board should be able to get pretty close for you.

Re: 1972 BB Truck Value

My truck is equipped similarly (less the factory A/C). I'd think 15K is a reasonable starting point as long as there's not a lot of rust or things the new owner would have/want to fix right away. JMO.

Re: 1972 BB Truck Value

I have a 71 BB wth ac, factory guages, tach, truck tilt, truck buckets, original engine, tranny and rear. if the engine, tranny and rear end are original, you should not take less than 10K for it and this number is probably low. If all the bracketry is original and the rear is limited slip and you upgraded certain things like tilt, tach, buckets, etc... this only increases it's worth. From the pictures you posted, it is probably worth closer to 15K. You have a desireable truck. Don't get suckered unless you are desperate and even then hold out for it's true value as long as you can.

You can tell if the engine is original to the truck by looking at the engine pad below the passenger side head in front of and under the ac compressor. This pad carries a series of numbers, that if posted, someone on this site could tell you what the engine was for. The tranny has an aluminum label riveted to the side of the tranny that has coding on it that can be deciphered. The rear end has a stamping on the front passenger side axel tube about halfway between the pumpkin and the wheel and at about 10:00 that can be decoded also.

Re: 1972 BB Truck Value

It's worth 10k right now......Bring it to me

A restored small block went across Barrett Jackson for 35+. Nice truck but not worth it in my opinion...

Re: 1972 BB Truck Value

Keep an eye on eBay for the same style and it will give you a good fair market value.

Re: 1972 BB Truck Value

Thanks All,
You have given me a bunch of information. Looks like I need to do some homework and start checking some numbers.

To be honest the pictures make the paint look better than it is. The original white paint has fine spider webbing. Some chips do not even show up in the photo's. There is some rust in the lower cab corner drivers side. It should be cut out and replaced. To be really nice I think the whole truck should be repainted.

Mechanically this truck is very strong. Lots of parts/work I had forgot or not mentioned. Howard Stewart water pump. One piece drive shaft. Tranny cooler. H-pipe cross over exhaste. HD fan clutch. Diesel truck fan blade.

The more I think about it, the more I regret having to sell this truck. It was always fun smoking some kid in a Mustang, Camero or fat tail pipe foriegn car.
