Pops and I
My dad and I are driving about 2 hours with the trailer to go look at a 72 lwb. More than likely we will bring it home. It's to good a deal not to. If it works out I'll be posting pics later in the day tomorrow.

Re: Pops and I
We got it home about 30 minutes ago. 72 Custom Deluxe Hugger Orange. I still have to check on if it's the origional motor or not, doesn't seem to be. Tomorrow we are going to let the cylinders soak in some marvels and then work on getting it running before much else happens to it. I'll go out and take a few pics of it here shortly.....Michael

Re: Pops and I
So are you going to let the cat-out-of-the-bag on how great a deal this was? Just curious. Looks like a pretty nice old truck.

Re: Pops and I
The last of them. In the engine pic that is car wash degreaser junk, stuff doesn't work. The last pic on this post is my dad's 72 4x4 C20 with the 76 model camper he found, it looks brand new. The camper was used twice, then taken off of the truck and put in a barn.

Re: Pops and I
The truck needs cab corners, rockers and toe kicks. Around here I haven't been able to come up with any solid trucks without paying dearly for them. That's if they have a title. I know you guys prolly can and have bought trucks for less but I got this one for a 1,000.

I agree the car wash degreaser junk doesn't work~ Oven cleaner works wonders, $2.00 a can, can't beat it!
Looks like a nice start to a project!

Re: Pops and I
I guess I'll have to get some numbers off of the block. Where would they be and where can I decode them at? I knew something was up due to it not having ram horn manifolds. It hasn't run in a while. The guy I got it from said the guy he got it from had it in his yard and some crackhead stole the plug wires, air cleaner and a few other odd and ends off of it.

I have pics of it before the camper on myspace. This is after he drove it home from Utah to Texas a few months or so ago.

Re: Pops and I
The plans are to get it mechanically sound then work on the cosmetics of it. I plan on paint and making it a decent driver to sell off for the least amount of money put into it I can.

Re: Pops and I
Looks like a pretty solid truck with an a/c cab, power steering and brakes. The bed floor looks to be pretty good also.
IMHO the price you paid is pretty good for the condition the truck is in. Have fun with it. Danny-Southeast Missouri |

Re: Pops and I
I'm not sure, I do know it's shot! You guys know alot more than I do, still kinda new to these trucks. I have learned quite a bit so far though. I'm trying to put a little money into this truck as far as resell goes. Now say you were looking at this truck, would you look at from a stock stand point or a driver stand point? I don't want to pay for the upper and lower trim that needs to be replaced. I would rather weld up the trim holes and make a nice driver out of it. With it being a custom delux would you rather have the trim on to look like a deluxe or a really good looking driver?

Re: Pops and I
Agreed! That is definitely an Oldslomobile engine! You can tell by the fuel pump being mounted up high on the passenger side of the engine.

Re: Pops and I
I'm almost ashamed to post pics of what I believe to be engine mount supports (that's why I didn't get pics of it yet). The engine is sitting really low in the engine compartment. I barely have 5/16 between the makeshift mount/support and exhaust manifolds as it is. I'm going low buck with this build. Does anybody think I should figure out what the engine is, get it running and leave it be? On the other hand would it be better to get a 350 to replace it like it had to start with, value wise?

Re: Pops and I
that olds engine is most likely a 74 to 78 350 ci emissions hog low compression setup that will cost you more in the long run to maintain than a small block.
