Hey guys,

Can you give me some opinions? I have a 63 longbed fleetside I've been working on. For the most part, these make really sweet cruisers with all the works if your so inclined. The problem I'm having is that I'm not really into "cruisers" and "customs" and I lean more towards hot-rods. I'm considering drastically shorting the frame and trailing arms and mounting the rear axle directly behind the cab. 28-30" diameter street slicks with a small bed mounted in-between the tires so they can stick out as far as they want on each side. I've already purchased the bags so I'll still bag it but probably drive it with a nice rake most of the time. I currently have a 327 in it which would receive a nice overhaul-tunnel ram, new heads, and "big" headers routed to 3 or 4 inch side dump exhaust. Anyways, try and picture it and tell me what you think. I've seen lots of trucks done well in this fashion but without bags and never a 60-66 chevy. I can picture it but I think the bed is the part that will make or break the look and will take the most effort to get right.

i would retain the stock front end and the roof, but i'm glad you posted it, that bed dosn't look that great. maybe a custom made tiny flat bed? i'm picturing it with the bed actually not sticking out for then a couple inches past the back of the wheels but may even go flush or a couple inches recessed in the wheels. So a side view, you really wouldn't see any bed sticking out. it would be all wheel and tire.

wow, i do like the chop on the black one. dont really feel that these trucks should be done up in this fashion. if you want to go with a "bobber" truck, then sell it to someone who will do justice to your truck. this stile of truck looks good on pre 48 trucks.

that black one is more like what i'm thinking, the rest are ugly. I think there are a lot of ways they went wrong on that black one too though. hmmmm..........................i guess i'll have to mull it over some more

the black one was on ebay.
the 2nd is a model truck that the fidigeter on the h.a.m.b. is building.
the orange one is a daryl starbird truck from the 60's

sweet! thanks for those last pics, that kinda is what i'm thinking. I don't think that looks too shabby. I would run much bigger tires in the back then the front though to offset the hugeness of the nose on these trucks. thanks man.

at one point I had a wrecker boom on that model.
the model reminds me of those little airport trucks that they use to pull around the luggage. I remember seeing that done with some 73-87's.

where do you get the 60-66 chevy models at

ebay, or hobby heaven,model king, just google 60 chevy model truck, or 64 chevy model truck.
the amt '60, and thr revell '64 are both short fleets, and new releases, should be worth $15 each
Amt/smp did annual kits in the '60's, they go from $15-$35 for a built kit , to $100+ for an unbuilt with box.
you can also find pomos from 60-66, but expect them to almost always be warped, and $100+ in price.
the promos, and amt/smp are all long fleets.
I think revell did a short step '64 in the 90's that came with a boat and trailer,and amt does a 55-57 short step that you could use to convert the 60-64 kits.

i need to keep an eye out for some, they would be a good way to "build" your truck and see how it would look before actually commiting.

i saw some nice buitl one on ebay but i want un bilt ones cuz i was thinking of finding a 40 chevy truck and a 59 fleet and narrowing them and sticking them ona model a frame in model version of course

Here are a couple of the model kits, as well as, some of the diecast models available for the 4-5-6 Chevy Trucks. I bought all of these on eBay over the past few years. Diecast models are available in 1:64th, 1:32nd, 1:24th and 1:18th scale for the 4-5-6 Chevy Trucks.
