Re: EGR Valve???

hey, if you're not worried about passing emissions at all then you might as well go with the block-off. Cheaper and will help your engine run a little better

Re: EGR Valve???

I don't think egr's are that expensive, but again if you arent worried about smog i would go with a block off. they just put exhaust back through your intake and sometimes crud up the carb if the egr is going bad. Im not sure what you would need to do to use a block off plate and still not get any check engine codes though.

Re: EGR Valve???

I had to take it off our 84 when I put on an edelbrock carb. I bought the holley plate for $12 and a gasket and blocked it off, then removed the smog pump, now just gotta take off the air tubes. I wouldn't think twice about yanking it off long as she still runs good with smog pump gone you'll be fine I think.

How did you go about taking the smog pump off? I've got one on my 75, but there is no need for it anymore.

Re: EGR Valve???

I haven't removed it yet just cut the belt off of it.

As far as I know there's bolts that hold it to the block then clamps or something to hold the hoses on to it.

Shouldn't be hard to remove I wouldn't think.

After removing the egr and even before when you'd rev our up it backfire real bad out the exhaust and the smog pump was doing it, with the belt cut off it doesn't backfire at all.

Re: EGR Valve???

You could have easily made a block off plate using parts from the egr and some sheet metal.

Re: EGR Valve???

yea but when you don't have the tools or the metal it doesn't leave you with many options.
