Weight of trucks?
Hello,
Just wondering how much it says your truck weighs on your registration/pink slip? Mine says 3440lbs. Is this correct because I always hear people saying that these trucks weigh at least 4000+lbs? Thanks......Lumpy ------------------ 67 Chevy,Short/Fleet,350,Saginaw 4-Speed,Lowered 4x2,small window,P/S,Edelbrock Intake/Carb,HEI,Gear Drive,Crane Cams 274h Three Rivers, Ca Pics at: http://community.webshots.com/album/35751472Gxaqxf

Mine says gross vehicle weight 3440lbs. But it was also registered as a commercial vehicle when I bought it. Maybe thats why it says the weight. Thanks.......Lumpy

So if my 3/4 ton is rated at 7500 lbs gross weight according to the door sill plate and it has an empty weight of 4000 lbs or less than that would leave a cargo capacity of 3500 lbs which would be 1 3/4 tons ? Huh? where does the 3/4 ton rating come in. I had never weighed one but I had alsways assumed these full sized long bed trucks were in the 5000-6000 lb range. Hell a chevelle tips the scales at 4000 or so. I should stop by the junkyard today and have them weigh the beast.

Yeah but you said yourself you own a 3/4 ton. The whole truck is heavier to begin with than a half ton. Bigger wheels, brakes, diff, heavier springs , all that stuff adds up. Plus GVW's vary as well. You can have a Chevy 1/2 ton called a heavy half with a 8600 pd GVW, lots of 454 powered camper specials were that way in the late seventies and truck was by no means a 3/4 ton suspension wise.

They don't put the vehicles weight on titles here in Pa. (at least none of my 6 have it)
I did take some scrap to the junkyard last summer and had my truck weighed with just me in it and it was 3900. Take 200 off (me-LOL) and im left with a 3700 pound 69 short stepside. ------------------ 63 Impala*66 Chevelle SS*69 Chevelle*69 C10 Stepside*71 Cheyenne 20*72 Chevelle Parts for sale: http://www.angelfire.com/trek/mr409/items4sale.html

My 1971 1/2 ton 4x4 weighed 4980 with me (150 pounds) and a half a tank of gas (60 pounds?). So I'll say 4700 - 4800 for a half ton 4wd. That was at the scales at a rock quarry over in Wisconsin.

So would you climb under your truck with a 2-ton jack and jackstand holding up the corner?

My 69' swb fleetside weighed in at 4020 with my 180lb butt in the drivers seat for a truck weight of 3840 or so. That's a 69 swb, with 350/400t, a/c, carpet, 275/50/15's on 8x15 rallys.

A few years back, I hauled a considerable amount of rocks, and before loading, my 1/2 lwb with me weighed in at around 3900 lbs, and I go about 150.
If you subtract me and several inches worth of bed and frame, 3440 doesn't sound too far off. I believe this was pre a/c as well. ------------------ '68 C-10 LWB, '98 Z-71 350 w/accessories (Serpentine), Edelbrock Performer, Edelbrock 1405 (600cfm) carb, GM HEI, CompCam Extreme 4x4 roller cam, Thorley Headers, Carter Electric Fuel Pump, Vintage Air, 700r4, 3.73, disc brakes and power steering upgrades. Way too much money and time..But it's a hobby.

I think my reg says about 3400 but it is about 4500. 70 C/10 8' fleetside. With topper and tool box right at 5000. With tow dolly and Honda just over 9000. Good thing for the BB.
