Boyd Coddington died

For those who haven't heard, Boyd Coddington died at 6:20 this morning. No cause of death yet, but he has been in the hospital for awhile.

Re: rip boyd coddington (merged )

It is sad to see anyone go that left a mark on the industry. Didn't care for American Hot Rod, but Boyd left his mark in the car world.

Re: rip boyd coddington (merged )

Sad to hear of his passing. I must say I didn't care for all his creations but you have to admit a lot of effort and a true love of automobiles was evident in his work. May he rest in peace and cruise heavin's back roads in the roadster of his choice.

Re: rip boyd coddington (merged )

I agree with those who disliked his personality and actions when on TV and I probably would not have lasted long if I had worked for him because of that, but I didn't know him personally and he did do some GREAT work, so RIP Boyd !!!

Re: rip boyd coddington (merged )

The man was a legend in his own time. There is not a single car builder that has ever came close to his achievements in building hotrods, innovating ideas, and putting many rising stars on the path to a mega career. Guys like Chip Foose, Jesse James, and Alan Budnik got their start with Boyd.

Regardless of how he acted for a TV show, he put an industry that we all love light years ahead by being involved.

RIP Boyd Coddington.....

Re: rip boyd coddington (merged )

Wow,

I remeber when I first saw the Vern Luce coupe in a magazine back in the 80's. It inspired me that anything could be done with imagination and hard work. I think he and John Butera (sp) changed the way enthusiasts build cars even today. Yes the billet thing went too far, but so does everything after all the copy rodders take their turn. I didn't always like his cars, but I was always glad they were there to break new ground. A few years ago I was at SEMA and stood in line to get his autograph. When I started to compliment him, he interupted me and told me "no stories". I was pretty pissed off. After this news, I figure he probobly knew his time was short and maybe that is why he always seemed so bitter. Anyway, he may have only made it to 60something but he left alot more behind than most... RIP and thanks, Boyd.
