These places do still exist...

Posted this over on TNCTC a few weeks ago and figured you guys would enjoy seeing them as well.

Here it is:

I went out on a treasure hunt Saturday and thought I would share the classic truck photos with everyone. Enjoy!

Re: These places do still exist...

wow, I wonder how long it takes for the tires/wheels to just start sinking like that yet have the ground around them perfectly flat. (photo 4 and 5)

Seems like they are returning back to mother earth.

Re: These places do still exist...

Several years ago I lived in NC and my wife worked with a guy (at IBM) that had moved down from NY. He moved out to the beautiful country side and in a near by town they were going to put in a new highway. It was to go thru 3 or 4 old juck yards. He purchased all the contents of the yards and crushed everything he did not want to keep. What he kept was everything between the 30's to the early 50's. Except for any Nashes, said he hated them as a young man and so he had them crushed. Made enough off the scrap to pay for what he kept.

He had everything hid from view so as to keep out people from finding what he had. A friend of mine had a 51 Chevy Coupe that he needed parts for and knew the old guy. We went to his house and he took us back to his yard. It had over 100 cars, truck & delivery panels from the bygone era. It was like we had traveled thru a time machine. He had kept 2 or 3 of each type so as to have enough to build something from. Totally amazing!

He had a '46 M-Benz that he was restoring for himself.

Yeah, for $3,000.

It's a shame that all those vehicles have found a permanent grave.
