4x4 radiator pipe..why?
Why did they put those on the 4x4's.. most people chucked 'em without any bad effects as far as I know.

Re: 4x4 radiator pipe..why?
My guess is because the engine is set back more than the engine in a 2wd truck, they wanted to make sure that extra length didn't cause problems. Maybe they were worried about that longer straight length collapsing.
Never had an issue with the one that was on my 69 and am having no problems with the one on my 70. However, when I swapped in the bbc into my 69, I did have to loose the metal portion and I'm seeing no ill effects.

I still have mine -- costs less when it's upper hose replacement time!

Didn't they have the internal springs back then to prevent collapse?

It looks cool!
I think GM was thinking about the length issue. And if your fan ever kicks up something it wouln't poke a hole in the hoze. I've had people comment about mine, they ask if its a military thing.

It was a great idea,IMO.You don`t need to hunt a model-specific part when your hose blows when you`re out in East Bumtruck.I`m sure they could have made a hose to fit.
