How much is too much?

I'm trying to decide if I should go all in and fully restore the old girl or just try and fix it one piece at a time. Is there too much rust on this truck, or should I just buy one in better condition and drive the wheels off this truck?

What is the best way to start? Should I have it blasted and primed before I start or get it done when I finish welding the floor back in?

It's been in the garage two months and already I miss my truck.

Yeah, that's the floor you're looking at through the rust.

Re: How much is too much?

This is a 69 C-10 with a three speed trans, straight six, fleet side.

How much is this gonna cost? Am I better off dumping $$$ into something better?

I wouldn't necessarily give up on the truck. You may be better off replacing the cab as opposed to repairing it. There have been many in far worse shape that have been repaired by folks on this board.

Re: How much is too much?

You need to first decide where you want the build to end up.Once you do that you can determine if your skills are up to it or if you want to develop them to that point. After that it's a matter of research and math.Just remember everything you have to have someone do will cost lots more.If you can do the work yourself you will save tons.So if you have a good frame etc. you may be able to swap cabs but you may not have the skills/time to repair the rust. You have to figure that out.

Re: How much is too much?

Thanx for the advice and encouragement.

I would just like to get her back to original. I'm not looking for show condition or anything fancy.

I never thought of replacing the whole cab. That sounds like work.

I'm just gonna try to replace a few cab corners and the floor and see how it comes out. Wish me luck.

Re: How much is too much?

i fixed on up that was in that bad of shape, the rockers were missing, there was half of the floor on both the passenger and driver's side that were gone and the rockers were rusted out above where the lower trim would have been, looking back, it really wasn't that much more work than one with minor rust. Go for it
