What should the temp guage show cold with the key off?

I just got the wiring and dash all put back together after a complete rewire, but my temp guage doesnt' seem to be showing anything. With the key off and at cold the needle isn't even visable. Any ideas??

I havn't let it run hot enough to see if it will even move due to a water pump leak *its always something*. Just not sure if it should be at cold or fall off all together when off and cold.

I would check the wiring from the gauge to the temperature sending unit. It sounds to me like it is grounding out.

grounding out would pedg it to hot.
I say wait till you fire up the engine... THEN see whats wrong. It may be absolutly fine.

I just did this to my 67 , YOU HAVE TO BUY A NEW TEMP SENDING UNIT !!!
the one for the idiot light and the one for the gauge are different , I went to advance auto part's and got mine it was $4 buck's ,, work's perfect , but with the key off it don't move ,

Question Re: What should the temp guage show cold with the key off?

I may have missunderstood , you did not rewire to go from idiot light's to gauges ? you just rewired your already gauge equiped dash ? right

Longhorn had it as always. Fired it up and nothing, i put the dash together wrong and had the needle hung behind the bottom out peg. Smart as a mule and just as good looking, my life story. Thanks for the responses.
